Re: Touch Pro Cleanup (Sprint Edition)
Thanks GT2L, I'm a user of the Tweaks Only package. Just giving you your props.
Nice work. Makes setting everything up by hand every hard reset a breeze! |

They are not doubled up on the start menu (that is fine) or on the programs tab (the one with the icons), they are just duplicated on the "all programs" screen (the button at the bottom right of the programs icon screen). I tried your suggestion above but nothing appeared to be duplicated in the \Windows\Start Menu field. Other than this issue what you have produced is awesome - thanks! |

Now that said, here's what I'm betting happened to you since you installed it twice... Open Start > Programs ... if you have anything listed there that is repeated in the Start > Windows Mobile folder, there's the problem... especially if you now have a Start > Programs > Windows Mobile folder with all the same icons as in Start > Windows Mobile. The Programs folder will be EMPTY after installing the full packages the first time, but the second time essentially duplicated the structure since it didn't have anything to cleanup, so it started over. You can clean out the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder duplicates to solve your issue. Anyway, this isn't a bug caused by the package. It's the combination of the way Windows Mobile handles Start Menu shortcut creation, and the fact that you installed it twice, so there's no real fix for it other than not to install it twice. Re: Touch Pro Cleanup (Sprint Edition)
Thanks for the hand holding
That suggestion worked, to a point. I went into the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder and sure enough there were a bunch of dupes. I hit "select all" and then "delete" to attempt to make the folder empty as you suggest. Most of the programs did delete but then it hit some Windows system files (Help, Bubble Breaker etc.) and warned that deleting them would make them unusable. I hit cancel. As a test I did go back in there and deleted the "Help" file to see if just the dupe would go away but no, the whole help file appears to be deleted from the device. The All Programs list still shows some dupes, basically everything listed in the Programs folder that is a system file. Those appear to be the 'real' files, do you know where to find and delete the duplicate entries to these? Thanks again. |

As for the "system" files... they're only marked that way if they were included in the original setup. They are safe to delete. |

Re: Touch Pro Cleanup (Sprint Edition)
Gosh I hate being a noob
It seems just when I fix something it creates another problem. I deleted everything in the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs folder as you suggested (ignoring the Windows warnings) and all the dupes in the All Programs screen went away Now, however my "Recent Programs" section is blank. This is the area at the top once you hit the Start menu. I started several programs to see if it would repopulate but it remains blank. Second, now when I go to Start/Settings/Menu I only have the 7 items that are currently visible (checked) at the Start menu but nothing else, no option to check or uncheck any additional programs I may want there. Plus the Programs folder (after hitting Start) is now empty (obviously) and I can see no reason to have it there and no way to delete it, is it neccesary? Will it repopulate? I have performed a soft reset. Frustrating. What am I missing? Last edited by ItsDon; 12-06-2008 at 04:22 PM. |

"Please pay attention to this part! The programs that come with the phone are moved to the Start Menu and are categorized into "Office Mobile, Windows Live Mobile, and Windows Mobile". Only the Sprint Shortcuts are deleted, which is why the cab file is included. Programs YOU install are left alone, and those are the programs you'll see in the "Recent" list." For what it's worth, give it some time and the Recent Programs listing will probably become one of the most annoying features about the start menu, especially as you install more programs that didn't come with the phone. I would have preferred having that space available for pinning icons... Quote:
1) The main start menu can only list 7 things, and all 7 are in use. I admit that isn't mentioned in my posts, and I did forget that's not obvious. 2) Again, there is nothing in the programs folder until you install something, so there is nothing to "readjust". If you unpin them from that menu listing, the folders will be moved back to the Programs folder, but the icons will still be sorted by folders. This will give you the advantage of them appearing in the Recent list again-- useful if you're not planning on installing anything else-- but you will still only have the folders listed as items to pin on the main menu, and you'll increase the number taps to reach everything by at least an extra tap and flick. If I may... now that the duplicates are removed, I'd encourage you to simply leave the start menu alone a while and spend a day or two with it as is. I'll bet that it grows on you, but if not, just open File Explorer back to \Windows\Start Menu and used Edit > Select All, Menu.. Edit > Cut, and Edit > Paste to move all the icons back into the main Programs folder from the new folders I made (actually, move Office and Games back by cutting the folders, not the icons, if you want the original layout). By the way... No worries on being a noob. I tried to piece this together and explain everything as thorough as possible, but there are always things like this that are completely new and overwhelming for first time users. I don't mind answering questions as long as people are willing to learn and experiment. Last edited by GoodThings2Life; 12-07-2008 at 11:03 AM. |

Re: Touch Pro Cleanup (Sprint Edition)
GoodThings2Life,
Once again I love your cab! I have two topics to discuss with you or anybody else who can answer properly. When I originally got my phone my volume keys on the side let me lower and raise the volume by hitting the up volume button or the down volume button. Now when I tap either button it opens up the volume control and if it hit it again it no longer changes the volume it just closes the volume utility. Do you know of a fix? My 2nd is a Display question. I would like my top and lower curtains to be transparent so it appears that my screen is larger. I hope I am explaining the right term. Curtains are where you hit programs/phone on the Today screen or Start and the batter/signal icons on the top? Besides that I am a happy camper! Thanks |
