Skyfire and TP

Does anyone here use skyfire beta as their browser, I downloaded it to my TP and for some reason, it only comes up on half of the screen! If u do use it, is this happening to you?

Re: Skyfire and TP

Skyfire doesn't have a VGA-compatible version yet I believe

Re: Skyfire and TP

I find it ironic that SKyfire first used images of the HTC Diamond as their poster child phone in their initial ads.

It's too bad SKyfire is not VGA capable. Skyfire + Opera combo makes for a perfect combination. Hopefully Fennec (Firefox Mobile) will have full flash support and then it will be the ONE mobile browser for me.

Re: Skyfire and TP

Yea, Skyfire only works in portrait mode on the Diamond. I have a friend who loaded it on so i expected to to get that at least. But to no avail its not at all useable. ill be keeping an eye out for a compatible version. Opera is alright and PIE w/Flash Bundle and TCPMP Recomp 03 is good but i REEEEALLY want to just use ONE browser. And for My Mogul that was Skyfire... i want my SKYFIRE BACK !!!

Edit: Some one had brought this to the attention of the SF developers:

Re: Skyfire and TP

yeah, the mods on the skyfire forum almost crap their pants if you mention anything about wanting it to work on a VGA device, then they close the thread and say were working on it. not giving anyone any more idea than that.

Re: Skyfire and TP

opera claims that the disabled active x is a known issue (with other), I wonder if that means that they one day plan on incorporating it.

I use skyfire on my Touch Pro... You just need to start skyfire with your keyboard slid out and dont close it while using skyfire or it'll go back to half the screen. Works pretty good for me!!

skyfire for diamond/pro??

anyone know when a build of skyfire for vga phones will be available??

cornelious2 10-29-2008 03:47 PM

Re: skyfire for diamond/pro??

last I heard its slated for Feb 29th

*edit**
considering this is the leap year, feb 29th would not hit for another 4 years I was being facetious.

It takes them that freakin long to make it VGA ready? WTF

Re: skyfire for diamond/pro??

Yah I'm kind of anxious to get skyfire VGA as well. Should run great compared to the Mogul.

Re: skyfire for diamond/pro??

I just installed the latest Skyfire beta. It only shows up on half the screen and the other half shows my today screen....

is this why?

bullet2300 10-29-2008 05:11 PM

Re: skyfire for diamond/pro??

Yep, that is exactly why. Supports half the resolution of the TP/Diamond.

it's not yet vga compatible

Re: Problems with Skyfire

the only way to use the latest skyfire on your touch pro is to start it and use it in landscape mode with your keyboard open. thats the best way to use it for now.

Re: Problems with Skyfire

I have tried that and that doesnt even work. Does anyone know of anything else like skyfire out there?

What he said. Just make sure you don't get any notifications or alerts popping up, otherwise Skyfire will revert back to that half-screen that is unrecoverable. At first, my Skyfire didn't work either, but after a soft reset, works like a charm. I never thought I'd be watching crunchyroll on a PPC!

FYI opera + flashlite 3.1 = slightly slower skyfire.

Aren't there tons of threads about this already?

Skyfire is a major battery hog anyway. I like Opera Mobile better, except that there's no Flash support.

Cornelious reported that it won't be until around Feb/Mar when the VGA version is released.

oh... lol I forgot to clue you in, when I said feb 29 considering this is the leap year that wouldn't happen for another 4 years. I need to edit my post haha.

I found it to be dirt slow and unbearable actually. I tried both Flash lite 3.1 cabs floating around.

Re: Problems with Skyfire

interesting, it functions pretty quick for me, just not as fast as skyfire, but then again it does everything client side so its just a hair more secure for things like checking a bank statement and such. which version of opera are you using?

have guys got sites working with the flash lite cabs? dailymotion or veoh doesnt work for me.

skyfire not working on touch pro

hello guys, just got my touch pro yesturday, and was very excited about it,, come to find out that when i tried installing skyfire beta, our phone is not yet supported, according to their forum, skyfire only supports a maximum of 320x320 vga screens.. so i only get half the screen on the pro...
anyone know of any other browsers with flash out there??
thanx in advance

TurboFool 11-04-2008 12:01 PM

Re: skyfire not working on touch pro

Search, this is a known issue. Unfortunately no, no other browsers with full Flash support. Install Flash Lite and you can get some level of flash support within Opera, though.

IMO, it's like an irritating version of Opera Mobile, but it's faster and has Flash support. I hate the zoom feature on Skyfire, and it's a battery hog.

Open your keyboard then launch Skyfire. If you haven't filled out the initial login screen yet, that may be a little tricky with only half the screen but once you get past that, close the program, restart Skyfire with the keyboard still open, then Skyfire will utilize the entire screen.

Re: skyfire not working on touch pro

It seems like whenever I "upgrade" phones, it is always one step forward and two steps back....

Skyfire + Hulu = Better time at the gym! Its frustrating that stupid thing doesnt work yet.

Reminds me of my new macbook, again one step forward, 2 steps back (no firewire port, no s-video adaptors)

frustrating.
