Hardware? No clue really... but I would be interested to know. Maybe call Sprint about an Airave? Complain till you get one for free

You can try reflashing your radio if you feel up to it, this may increase your reception a little bit (it will definitely increase battery life at the very least). I like the Telus radio, but it seems to have slightly poorer reception. The VZW radio is nice too.
