I had this issue too and actually reached a sprint rep that was very helpful - apparantly it's a common problem with these phones and activation.

Basically you need to go into the data screen (##3282#), hit edit, enter your phone's unlock code, and activate profile 1 (it'd be defaulted to profile 0)

what ended up being the issue and the fix?

i dont know. i did the hard reset, changed the profile to 1. i never soft-resetted again after it already did the reset. once i did that it seemed to work
