Keyboard Light

My keyboard light goes off after a few seconds of inactivity and then I'm groping in the dark to find the right key and have to hit the DEL key before I get back on track. Anyone else have the same problem?

I've posted a new thread about this too a little while back. Also have searched but it seems that no one knows how to change this.

Re: Keyboard Light

What about Advanced Configuration, or Spb Tips and Tricks, or *trying* PPC6700 tweak program, and see if it works?
I know that with Spb and 6700. you can change this behavior on the 6700, so if it is the same registry, just install the Spb program to storage card, and report back.

The registry edit that seemed to have worked for a bunch of WinMo devices doesn't work on the Pro. I just tried it. The default is 10 in the registry but the backlight on the Pro lasts only 7 seconds. I might he a hardware timer instead of a software one.

This is the original location of the registry key:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\QKeyLedTimeout

Yeah, I have this posted in another KB Light thread on the site...I reported it does not work, along with the other entries in that key.

If someone could figure this out I think I'd be 100% satisfied with this phone. Well, 99%. Calendar opening with month view is the other thing I'm hoping someone will find a fix for.

It is looking like it is hardware controlled, which means no fix.

I hope this isn't true. I don't know why they made it like this. It makes sense to me to have the light synchronized with the screen backlight.

I was having the same issue with the calender, but I think I figured it out. If you open it thru the big button on the Today screen, it opens up to your agenda, most likely because they think you would want to see your upcoming appointments from the Today screen. However, if you open up the calender thru the start menu or programs after setting it to open up to the month view, it should open right to month. Hope this helps, it was frustrating me until just last nite.

Just clicked "Thanks" for you! I can deal with 2 clicks to see the month view. Thanks! I don't suppose you know how to remove the calendar link from the home screen?

All I know is that I went in a did the registry change noted above that *should* have worked and it didnt. It points to hardware control which HTC has been done before. I wouldent give up hop, but dont hold your breath either.

If you're talking about the power settings, it's not there. Where do you see a setting for keyboard backlight? Messing with the power options for the screen doesn't affect the keyboard.

He is talking about Advanced Configuration Editor

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151

In there under input, keyboard backlight timeout. However this doesnt work. All this does anyway is change the qkeyledtimeout which we already know doesnt work.

Are you sure? Becasue I have changed this setting in the registry and it does not have an effect on the time out.

Guys... I think we are going about this whole thing wrong; doesn't the Pro have the light sensor to automatically turn on/off the backlight? I bet you that this is where we need to pursue the issue. Maybe look under the light sensor registry, and see if there are keys there that control this aspect. I think the light sensor is for the backlight on the screen, but perhaps they are connected?

Re: Keyboard Light

MicroP.dll appears to be linked to this somehow. I stopped that dll and the kb light stopped working until I rebooted.

You can see it in the reg under HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\KeyLight

There's also an interesting entry under You can see it in the reg under HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\KeyPad called DisableKeyLight

I ran across THIS THREAD over at XDA where someone was playing with these registry settings.

mdodge 11-06-2008 12:23 AM

Re: Keyboard Light

Problem is MicroP.dll controls not only the keyboard leds, but all the Led's (status's, buttons..etc)

the disablekeylight setting doesnt appear to do much on the pro that I tested and observed. Need to find what controls only the keyboard lights whether its a reg key or another module/dll.

Re: Keyboard Light

Yeah this is one of 2 big issues I have that I'm trying hard to find a solution too. During some tweaking/testing I disabled the led's all together and had to hard reset to get them back lol.

Seems that GSM Touch Pro's respond to the QKeyLedTimeout value but the Sprints/CDMA do not. hmm

Re: Keyboard Light

I have a feeling no2chem will have a driver for this in the near future. He released a backlight driver for the Mogul last month and was trying to figure out the kb backlight at the same time.

Re: Keyboard Light

I searched the registry, LED dlls, and the keyboard DLL's with a hex editor and didn't find anything. This is the single most crappy thing about the phone, and it's starting to piss me off more every day.

Someone is gonna have to do it on a driver level because it certainly isnt registry level... and god lets hope its not hardware level though i seriously doubt it is

I wouldn't mind it going out in 7 seconds if it would light back up when the center of the D-pad was touched like the other buttons.

Keyboard Backlight

I have searched thru the threads and have found nothing. What I'm looking for is my keyboard to light up automatically when dark. My mogul used to have a setting for the light sensor ....is there anything like this on my TP....pain in the *** being in the dark and the keyboard not lighting up on it's own. I have to hit a random key so it lights up ..delete..continue to type..and then two seconds later the keyboard goes out again!](*,)
