I followed the instructions in the essentials thread and it did nothing. I copied all the files from the unzipped folder into the windows folder just like it said and even soft reset the phone. Any ideas?

go to settings/today and select it?

Pretty sure Manilla files are "system" files - you'd have to replace them with TotalCommander instead of Windows File Explorer.

Extract the files somewhere else, copy from that location to \windows\ in Total Commander.
