I just want that damn VGA screen! hopefully when I exchange mine tomorrow, I will get one that takes care of ALL my concerns.
I busted out my Touch today. Although it's a pretty good phone, it's REALLY wide in comparison to the Pro or the Diamond, and that sucks. Oh, and the QVGA next to VGA is just ridiculous. lol

But, the Mogul really isn't a crappy phone. Use a custom ROM like DCD's or no2chem's (with the camera off it gets like 33MB free RAM on boot) and it's decent (at least it was for my usage). I still use it from time to time as a wifi device, sad as that may sound.

For those who have had a Mogul and now have the Touch Pro, do you find the keyboard sliding mechanism isn't as good as the Mogul on the TP? Also, is text entry actually slower than the Mogul on the keyboard?
unfortunately in my experience with all 4 HTC device, the Pro feels the flimsiest of the 4. The touch and diamond were both rock solid, no loose anything or real huge defects. Mogul was ok build quality too until the white spots on the screen down the line. the Pro just feels cheap out of the box.

As ive posted, the keyboard slider just feels really poorly designed and implemented. When the slider is shut, it can twist quite a bit and feels loose when you wrap your hand around it (jiggles like the slider would pop open). Also however they put the 2 halves of the device (top and keyboard) together vs the mogul was a crappy design. the hinge end to the right of the phones is ok, but the to the left side its just a gap between the two parts. When you tap on the screen from about the center of the screen to the left, the two halves come together and make a disconcerting clacking sound and is flexing the two halves. Its also hard to navigate a wobbling screen moving back and forth with finger pressure. Seems poorly designed.

its still a toss up because i love the phone overall still. I still have 22 days so ill wait it out a little.

Re: Is the thickness worth having the hardware keyboard?

personally i can care less about the thickness of the phone. the only thing i really care about is if the keyboard is even worth having. i want to hesr the stories on the keyboard because i heard it was poorly built and seems like it will break in no time. now sure like some have mentioned in prior threads that its good to have insurance in which i do, but i really dont want to keep dropping 50 deductibles due to a poorly built device. ive had a sprint rumor which is probably the cheapest phone they have available now but it is built well and the slide out keyboard is excellent. this is a 600 phone here and regardless of how cheap were gettin it for, its stilla very expensive phone.

FYI if your device is breaking and it is not your fault you should not be paying the $50 deductible. The $7/mo insurance plan (if you have the whole thing) is both insurance AND extended warranty service, and the extended warranty part of it covers repair/replacement for pretty much anything that was not your fault for free.

Also, the keyboard seems REALLY well built to me, much better than the mogul keyboard.

Re: Is the thickness worth having the hardware keyboard?

UPDATE:

I just got a replacement Touch Pro from Best Buy (new shipment,) but what is funny, is it was MADE EARLIER! 10/12/08 vs 10/13/08 -- and the screen is perfect. I mean, it's nearly the same as my Touch. I can hit the ok/x button easily!!

I called my voicemail on the way home, and it sounded pretty good... still pretty quiet though. I must re-iterate that it's almost a necessity to PUSH the phone into your ear to channel the sounds--or so it seems.

I'm just really excited because the BUILD quality is much higher. The keyboard mechanism only moves about 1 degree when closed now! The battery cover doesn't have any play! the keyboard LEDs are more even, and the sliding mechanis FEELS better. before, it felt like there was sand in the tracks or something...

I REALLY recommend returning yours if it isn't F L A W L E S S

I think I just orgasmed. Sorry for all the uppercase...

typing is also faster... plus I hard-reset like 3 times...

Trust me, I'm the most nitpicky person on earth. The build quality truly is better. Squeaky battery cover PISSES me the F off... to no end.

Screen--I couldn't hit the 'a' key on the full qwerty without hitting hard, otherwise it would push 's' even though I hit the a.

Sound, I don't know for sure. I will have to do more testing, but I'm still much happier so far... it gives me hope that I may find/have found the perfect Pro

My speaker is slightly better, but still terrible. I really want one of the 10/18 or 10/19 phones...

Re: Is the thickness worth having the hardware keyboard?

for me this phone is the perfect size my hand doesn't cramp up holding the tiny diamond. sure this isnt as pocket friendly as the diamond, but thats what a holster is for.
