Roam Only

Not sure if it has been discussed already, but for roam only option, is the regedit for the TP the same as it was for the TOUCH 6900?

Re: Roam Only

I hope so because I will need this were i live. I get better signal in my house when using roam than on the Sprint network. This is due to the fact that I am on the fringe coverage area of Sprint's network.

Wow, it doesn't work! I ran the cab, nothing changed in the Roaming settings. Soft reset...still nothing changed. Whats going on?

Re: Roam Only

You can make a simple an quick registry change to get the Roam Only option.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\InitProv\PhoneSett ing

1) Change ItemCount to 3

2) Change ItemName3 = Roam Only. (Default = Automatic-B )

Soft reset. Go back to the settings you should now see roaming option.

You will nedd a registry editor to do this though. PHM Registry Editor works great and it is free. You can get it here..

http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/RegEdit/

And that's all yout got to do.... Enjoy!!!!

Thats how I am here in San Angelo, TX. Don't understand how Alltel has it here but Sprint wouldn't want to do so.

No roaming charges if you have the unlimited plan.

How does data work when roaming? I get great verizon coverage in my apartment but the sprint coverage is meh. If i switch to roaming only will I be on Verizons data network as well?

Also is there a quick way to turn this off and on for when i leave my apartment and get back to better sprint reception areas?

Re: Roam Only

You don't have to soft reset after applying that registry edit. Also, after I soft reset, my roaming only option always disappears.

I'm in Lubbock. I think I'm actually in Heaven now. I can't believe alltell has EVDO coverage. I just hope I dont rack up too much roaming where my account gets flagged!

Thanks OP! Worked fine for me. I had to soft reset for the option to show.

I just tried doing this, but nothing shows up under the roaming options after i apply those two registry hacks, I have tried changing it and then soft resetting and nothing, tried again without soft resetting and still nothing. Any ideas? i'm running JD's 6.1 rom by the way if that matters.

Did you use the cab or manually edit the registry.?

I maually edited the registry using rescos registry editor. I dont know if this is normal or not but i noticed that in the phonesettings folder the "itemvalue2" is set to "(4)" and the "itemvalue4" is set to "(2)" is that normal?

Here are my settings under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\InitProv\PhoneSett ing

ItemCount 3
ItemName1 Sprint Only
ItemName2 Automatic
Itamename3 Roam Only
Itemname4 Standard
ItemValue1 1
ItemValue2 4
ItemValue3 3
ItemValue4 4
ServiceName Roaming
SeriveTitle Phone: Roaming

As long as those are set it should work.

I made everything in my registry look like yours ( i only have to change the itemname4 to standard and itemvalue4 to 4) did a soft reset, and I still only see "sprint" and "automatic" under the roaming options, I dunno why its not working. Thanks for trying to help though.

I ran the cab from post #4, and it worked like a charm. I now have a ROAMING OPTION!!! SO SWEET!!! Thanks, guys! Just made my day. Sucks when I'm at work, cause I had really bad Sprint service. My old a920 I used to force to roam at work, now I can do the same with my Pro!!

Yes. Here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1&postcount=15

I modified someone's Mortscript to improve speed and work with VGA. This will allow you to create a short cut to toggle between roam and automatic. I use it all time.

In that same thread, someone took the script I modified and simplified it to toggle only.

Enjoy...

Doesn't Sprint require that at least 50% of calls/data are on the PCS Network?

Also something a lot of people don't know... Mobile to Mobile calls come off of your anytime minutes when roaming.

http://nextelonline.nextel.com/en/le...ndconditions#2

Off-network Roaming on Sprint Phones: Not available with single-band phones, or to customers residing outside an area covered by the Nationwide Sprint Network. Sprint may terminate service if (1) more than 800 minutes, (2) a majority of minutes or (3) a majority of data kilobytes in a given month are used while roaming. International calling, including in Canada and Mexico, is not included in plans with no roaming charges. Roaming usage may be invoiced after 30-60 days. Data services and certain calling features (Voicemail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, etc.) may not be available in all roaming areas.

Data Usage Limitation (Mobile Broadband Cards, USB Modems, Embedded Modems and Phone-As-Modem): The amount of data transmitted over our network is measured in kilobytes (KB), megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB). Sprint reserves the right to limit throughput speeds or amount of data transferred; and to deny, terminate, modify, disconnect or suspend service if usage either exceeds (a.) 5GB/month in total, unless specified otherwise or (b.) 300MB/month while off-network roaming. 1024KB equal 1MB. 1024MB equal 1GB.

Re: Roam Only

Ok, sorry for the obvious question but does the phone not roam on other networks if Roaming is set to Automatic? If I see "Sprint Only" or "Automatic" then the implication is that Automatic means enable roaming.

Is this not the case? If not then what is the difference between Sprint Only, Automatic and enabling this tweak?

Thanks.

Automatic means that it'll use Sprint's network when available, roaming when it isn't. "Sprint Only" means Sprint's network only, no roaming, and the "Automatic-B" forces it to roam on (I believe) the strongest network available. I'm not sure whether this means "never use Sprint's network".

Won't roaming only also kill your battery even faster than normal?

HBOOT 01-15-2009 05:49 PM

Re: Roam Only

Nah man ,this will make your TP just use other carrier signal like Verizon , instead of trying to capture your carrier weak signal, so it does the opposite,it saves u battery and gives u good signal, win win
