Yes... if you were roming on analog.... but those days are past and gone... You will not use any more power on digital roaming than you would on your home carrier.

yep. ive had this change for about a week now, and i defintely see an improvement in my phone's battery while im at work. i hated how my phone would just bounce from one tower to another tower pretty much every couple of mins and drain the battery in the process.

Does this also apply to data roaming? (no extra battery drain?)

For the past couple days, my signal at work has been weak. Could this be the explanation why my battery drained from 90% to 20% in a matter of 1-2 hours? My phone was very warm and I made sure I had no programs running. I did a soft restart and it was still the same...

Re: Roam Only

did you have your TP on Roam only while at work? Lots of TP's gets warm while under heavy usage...was yous plugged in , were you watching som corn or sumthing....

Re: Roam Only

Nope, it wasn't set to Roam Only. Today, I have a full strength signal... but the past couple days, it was 1 bar or none. I wasn't using it at all... I just felt it get warm like when I watch Youtube.

Re: Roam Only

Ok, if your signal is weak or fluctuates to much, you will notice battery drainage even if the TP is just chilling. And that is why we have the Roam only cab, if you set it to Roam your Tp wont be looking for signal assuming your Roam signal is strong. Downside, you wont enjoy evdo unless teh third party allows it. Utube will get your TP hot as any other movie watching over the internet, some get really some dont

Also if you are in a low signal area switch to 1x mode and it will save tons of battery. I find when my phone is changing From 1x to EV it drains the battery worse than anything.

Does anyone else get the connecting to network constantly?
Mine doesn't seem to lock up to 1X, and keeps searching for signal... Is there any fix to this or am I the only one experiencing it?

Wow - this may explain why my battery life is SO inconsistent. Sometimes it lasts 1.5 days, but sometimes it'll drain down in 3 or 4 hours - with no real difference in my usage patterns. However, the signal in my office building fluctuates wildly depending on the room I am in.

How do I do this? (switch to 1x mode and back)

Nope, verizon doesn't offer EVDO to roaming users.

Thanks OP! Worked fine for me. I had to soft reset for the option to show.

I am in Lubbock also and have been using the Roam only for a Mogul and now the TP for over a year. Remember that when you go to roam only, you also go to voice roaming on the Alltel network also. You will have to dial full number for all calls in lubbock even if they are local. I do not use roam only except when I need the extra speed. I have found that the TP and the current PRL work very poorly in areas between lubbock and ruidoso and in the areas north when not on the interstate. I was north of Amarillo last week and could not get a data connection most of the time.
One caveat, on the mogul roam only worked great with one PRL but when it was updated you could no longer roam on the alltel network. I had to manually go back to the old PRL in order to roam on Alltel.
It is a shame Lubbock is located in the technological wilderness.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\InitProv\PhoneSett ing

1) Change ItemCount to 3

2) Change ItemName3 = Roam Only. (Default = Automatic-B )

Soft reset. Go back to the settings you should now see roaming option.

You will nedd a registry editor to do this though. PHM Registry Editor works great and it is free. You can get it here..

And that's all yout got to do.... Enjoy!!!!

Ok...so I'm having difficulty loading the DL'd file. Does it need to run on my laptop first or do I need to get it on the phone and then run it? The first file I DL'd gives me an error message when I run it stating something about the Windows Installer being wrong. Pelase help. I have Vista Biz 64 running on this laptop.

Evdo roaming doesn't work unless you happen to be roaming on alltel's network. As for why its not picking up a signal i am not sure but I believe it will only roam on cdma networks but I could be wrong.
