Wow, When I first did it it didnt work, I must have placed 5 or so layers... then it just dawned on me, I was doing it on the wrong side... idiot.. Works great. Before my device felt a little flimsy just cause of that crick now it feels solid and worth the money i spent on it.

Is there any reason why blue painter's tape in particular is a good choice? How about electrical tape? Or regular old beige masking tape? (Both of which I have around the house.) Ideally I don't want it to get all gummy and nasty over time with the heat in there.

Electrical tape will get all gummy with heat and icky. Don't use it.
