Re: Touch Pro Build Date

The people who post on this site are intuitive and go beyond the basics of owning a phone... These people want to un-lock their devices and install custom ROM's and do registry edits and stuff that the mainstream user does not notice or partake in... The reason that there seems to be such a high amount of issues with the TP is that most people who have issues think its a common thing and don't post it... Only the people who have gained insight into a WM device and realize something isnt how its supposed to be are generally the people who post on this site or call and complain... If every single issue was recorded by every person who had an issue, every device would have to be recalled... There is no miracle device that is perfect and has no faults... But the reason it seems that HTC has low quality control is that only the people who think its an issue step forward... HTC builds great phones... No company can create every device equally... Especially mass production of an electronic device, where the smallest difference can cause a great variation... If HTC or any phone manufacturer really had that poor quality, they would be out of business... Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, etc. would not buy their phones if they were crap.. 98% of all people who buy phones probably don't know the differnece between a ESN and a MSL, but what they do know is that they want a phone that does what they want... The TP is a great phone or else nobody would buy it...

People also buy phone because of an image, or at least what a phone is "supposed" to do. The idea behind the TP is amazing. The specs are out-of-sight. TF3D is pretty cool... but if a phone can't make a long phone call without overheating, it's not really a phone...

HTC/Sprint markets this as a "professional touch screen device." The touch screen of the Diamond/Pro is supposed to be revolutionary--at least for US carriers--because of it's resolution and whatnot. Why would they "downgrade" the responsiveness of it? The first thing people probably think is, man this phone has a F-ING awesome screen! -- oh shoot, I can't even scroll in a program without using my fingernail. What's up with that? (I can also use a stylus, but that's pretty lame too.) Or they might notice that unless they push 10 times harder, the start menu or X button won't even register.

The fact that it's failed on the phone portion, (in many aspects,) as well as the awesome touch screen portion, makes me question how people can lap this stuff up, and think it's amazing.

Is this really that much better than the Mogul? Coming from a Touch, the only real difference is the VGA display and the keyboard. It has more horsepower, but honestly, I haven't seen much benefit to this. Perhaps if I played hardcore 3-D games, maybe I would. TF2D on my Touch was 10x smoother/reliable than the one on the Pro.

I want it to be perfect, for the price of this thing. Even if you argue that it's not $749, that's fine--whatever it is, there should not be all these defects. I feel like I bought a Visio Plasma versus the high-end Panny I have in my living room. If my Panasonic display had ANY defect, I'd be pissed--but it doesn't. It works "perfectly." Just like most cell phones out there. I know most WM have a few bugs, and I would be very forgiving on the software side, but things like build quality, (including the screen,) are just unbelievable.

I can understand how you guys are not very upset... if you are coming from the mogul, or another phone with bad build quality, or other problems, then this appears as a god-send. My Touch had no build quality issues, whatsoever. My M1? That was amazing--never had an issue, except for one area that the paint wore because of the hinge. I can accept small things like that, but it seems that people are not holding HTC to the fire here to get their money's worth on their recent phones.

More power to you guys who love the phone, regardless of problems, but I have a hard time understanding your point of view. I actually wish I saw things the same way, but with such an expensive phone, (really, it is,) I just have higher standards. I expect problems like this from the RUMOR, or the other "smartphone" texting sliders that HTC makes... Not their flagship business model phone.

Feel free to disagree, as that's the point of the internet.

Re: Touch Pro Build Date

Bottom line, is there any real difference (improvement) between the early units and the ones you get at Best Buy now?

I have to agree. I haven't seen much difference based on date. It's a total crapshoot as to what defect you will get...

Why are you so determined to convince everyone they have a POS just because you have had some bad luck on your first what is it know 4 attempts to get a TP that is perfect in your eyes. Maybe you just don't now how to use a PPC and by the way I had a Touch Vogue from Sprint and it had the same corner screen issues that you like to complain so much about. I hated that device because of its build quality and screen issues.

Back to the Touch Pro in the words of a famous game show host Survey Says

Poll Here

Keeping my original phone... am ok with issues, nothing to provoke a return, etc. 78%

Returned original phone(s)... ok with replacement and issues. 16%

Returned phone, looking for other options. 14%

Sorry boss, but Notching?

I have had my TP for 6 days and still happy with it... No issues to speak of.. If you hear of issues, it makes it a lot easier to see them...

Re: Touch Pro Build Date

I would like to chime in, on the three phones I have now owned...

The first one, had a VERY obvious physical Defect, something noone could say was normal. The screen had a flipping issue when the KB was open, the phone could not tell that it had the KB open or closed. I was not the only one with this issue, there seemed to be a small percentage of phones with this problem.

The other problems seem to come from a large variance in tolerance range. Volume lower or louder. The build quality defects are very noticeable from one phone to another.

I saw none of the above in my first and Previous HTC phone, the Touch. It was right the first time, with the exception of the screen viewing angles, which all the phones were like that from Sprint for a long time.

So I would not consider what I am seeing as normal or expected. I can accept one phone being louder in volume then the next, but I did not expect to find many phones with chrome or bottom panel fitting differences... Look at all the Instincts or Rants or... Darn near any other phone and I bet the cosmetic problems are few and far between, and their tolerance in speaker quality (as my problem pertains to me) I bet does not deviate as such.

It makes me wonder if the changes that Sprint wanted compared to the GSM version did not leave HTC enough time QA these changes, and Sprint needed the phone sooner then waiting... And we as in many other markets are the first testers to find the problems, and I am hoping for a Revision 3 to show up some day, or I look forward to 12 months from now when the next phone comes to market to replace this one.

I am with ScrapMaker on a few of his points, mainly, previous HTC phones I have owned did not suffer from cosmetic defects and I did not expect them in this phone either. I only accept what I have, as I see little other choice until something better comes out Sprint, until then, this IS the phone I want, even with it's physical defects...

10/15 Flipping Screen, Warped home button (really noticeable).
10/12 Nice phone, but the external speaker volume was lacking. None of the audio hacks worked. I was sad to let it go, because other then that, the phone was flawless for me, but I could not hear my phone ringing at my waist...
10/28 Volume is improved, so far everything else seems to work as well, but I have a gap in the chrome and a slightly warped home key... I am dreading any kind of heat issue...
