Eventually what I ended up doing was downloading the HTC wifi router. That worked on the ipod and everything else.

Re: Tethering with WMWifiRouter .91
This is because the .91b version doesn't have adequate control over the wifi chipset. If you read up on the newest version of wmwifirouter (not free) it explains why it drops out or is not detected by a lot of devices. I got the full version and even though it is not free, it is leaps and bounds better than the .91b free version that we all try. Free is nice, but almost all the problems are solved in the paid version. The only thing they didn't address was resetting the tcp/ip stuff back to default when you quit the program, which makes your EVDO not work correctly until it is reset.

Re: Tethering with WMWifiRouter .91
I have used xda wifisharing with sprint touch pro 2 for a long time and it has worked well with all hardware up til now. I purchased an android froyo (2.2) tablet. I have edited the tablet to pick up on adhoc wifi networks but it wont connect to xda wifisharing wep connection. Ive been told it only likes open wifi protocol. Can anyone suggest a wifisharing program for windows mobile 6.5 that works and creates an open wifi sharing connection ? I tried the free version of wmwifirouter .91 which seems to create open connection but couldnt see it on tablet or laptop. From what I read previously in this blog, this free version doesnt work well with wm 6.5
