[BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX06 - "Stable" - Minor Fixes

Please read this entire post!

<<<This is a link to the... FAQ Click it!!>>>

I have created a complete bundle of FroYo with a kernel from GIT (Feb 28 / 1276), and the newest rootfs from GIT (Feb. 24).

Please, feel free to DONATE to the XDAndroid project!

Every little bit helps!

Directions:

1. Download the full bundle (zip). (Updated Mar. 25 2011)

If instead you just want the system.ext2 (zip) file by itself... (Updated Mar. 25 2011)

2. Extract it. You’ll see a folder, FRX06, copy its contents to the root of your SD card.

3. Go into the STARTUPS folder. Grab the appropriate startup.txt for your device (if you don't know what device you have, you should read the FAQ), and move it to the root of the card (or where you run haret.exe from. If you want to change the location of the build, put a rel_path= statement in the cmdline section of the startup.txt. Mine is located two folders deep on the SD, so my rel_path=Androids/TP2Ref)

4. Download the ts-calibration file from this post (should work for all RAPH/DIAM alike) and extract the .zip to where you run haret.exe from - typically the root or 'base' folder of the SD card. Not within any folders, unless you run haret.exe from a folder!

**To calibrate manually, you must use an older kernel from GIT (some have to use 1225) and generate the ts-calibration file. Once you have the calibration file hold on to it (make 15 copies if it's a good one :p), reboot & go back to the newest kernel! Thanks**

6. Run haret.exe... Profit! :D

Let it settle out on the first boot. Many have reported they had to reboot basically because it was so slow - if you let it sit for about 10 mins so the media scanner can go thru everything, etc. it will be much more pleasurable experience. If you want adb in and watch the processes via top, you'll see why the phone seems so slow - there's lots of background processes cranking because this is the first boot ;).

Troubleshooting:
Please read the... FAQ
If you have any issues with the kernel, feel free to change it:
There are some devices that are having issues with the newest kernels. Please see the kernel autobuild service to get archived kernels. Once you download a replacement kernel, go to where you run haret.exe from - remove your old zImage/modules-xxxxx.tar.gz. Take the new zImage/modules-xxxxx.tar.gz and replace the old ones, same folder - where you run haret.exe from. Make sure the ‘zImage’ is named just that. Do not rename the modules file, do not extract it - should be in .tar.gz format.

In addition, I am using the newest rootfs from GIT - Feb. 24. There are other rootfs options, see F22’s thread if you want to use more keys or move around the home button. Of course, there's always the roofs autobuild service if you want "stock" rootfs images - F22 builds his off of these and modifies them ;).

Random issues can often be solved by forcing the system to create a new data.img. If you're worried about losing data, Titanium Backup works quite well. If you wish, you can rename the data.img to something else, and let the system create a new one - just to see if it resolves your problem.

Similarly, if you wish try formatting your SD card - I prefer to use the HP Tool - do a full format, FAT32.

Even though this build is considered fairly stable, you are more than likely going to run into issues. The next post will address issues particular to this build - PLEASE READ THESE before asking questions! Feel free to post questions in this thread, I will do my best to address them. Big thanks to stinebd for releasing the system image, and of course the other developers for their hard work on making these kernels available.

Re: [BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX04 - "Stable"

Things broken in this build:
  • BT - pairs but won't pass audio/data

There's a lot of other things that will break at random, I know I list it as stable - but it's not really. Hence the reason it's in quotations.

It's fast. Thats fosho. I just have constant screen issues where it splits or is off my 2 mm or so. Good work tho!

Heh which phone. Sounds like the RAPH800 bug...

For whatever reason, you guys have to use the 1242 kernel. Sorry!

Yep. It's the 800.

Thanks! I'll check it out and post again if it doesn't work.

arrrghhh,

First, thanks for posting this.

I have a Raph800. My only problem is I'm having a booger of a time with the screen calibration using the 1242 kernel. I get the first square but after pressing the center of it I can never see the second and third squares. Anything I'm missing here?

Thanks

Yea, read what I mentioned after step 5... Some issue with newer kernels, seems to be related to the .35 framebuffer commit.

Edit - once you get a good calibration file, save it in a few locations and just reuse it again and again.

Ah, 1225. For some reason that registered as 1242 (not enough sleep). I'll try that out after work today.

Thanks and apologies for asking for what was right in front of me...

No worries. Someone shot me a ts-calibration file from a DIAM, which should work for RAPH as well. I attached it to the first post...

Re: [BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX04 - "Stable"

OK. Calibration was a snap with the right kernel but after that I could only get it to boot about every fifth time. I got the most recent kernel from the archives (feb 14 I think) which boots faithfully and runs pretty darn smooth. Only problem is it reboots randomly. seems like these guys are getting pretty close with this project.

Hrm... random reboots shouldn't happen, but there's a few reasons for those.

#1 issue is the SD card believe it or not - if you can, try it with a different card.

We are getting close it seems - depending on the device, very close ;). Thanks for the feedback, hopefully a different SD card will resolve the reboot issues. I was having a lot of reboots and it was driving me batty - did a lot of tracing and my logs all pointed to the SD being bad... swapped it with another one, works great now!

Kingston or Sandisk.

Keep in mind, if you get a class 6 or 10 it'll be fast transferring files... but not might place nice with Android. Class 4 seems to be the sweet spot.

so im fairly new to android, like... so new its ridiculous, so i decided that i wasnt going to use android as my main os until i learned all i could and got it as stable as i possibly could on my phone. so far im having no issues finding little things and fixing them, however there is one problem that i absolutely cannot stand and havent found a fix for. for some reason, the keys one my raph500 werent mapped like theyre supposed to... the home button didnt become the menu button, the lock button didnt become the home button. so i literally have no menu button, which, as you can imagine is quite frustrating, and physically cumbersome. in addition my keyboard keys were mapped funny. my caps lock is the function key, i have no shift to my knowledge, and theres just randomness all about my keyboard. i dont even know were my question mark button is.

Using the correct startup.txt/physkeyboard setting?

As for no menu, I don't have a RAPH but isn't that the center button? Let me know I can't remember.

Sure, if you feel like hacking the rootfs... Not too difficult, if you know your way around.

I thought I put folders for RAPH500, 800, 110 etc... Perhaps not for RAPH? I need to review that, thanks.

well no, the folders and startups are correct (er, im assuming) but in the start up, the keyboard is set to raphael, dont let me lead you astray, into thinking youve messed up somewhere. at this point i think my only option is to mess with the rootfs... which i dont really know how to do lol, but i like to consider myself somewhat apt at learning these things, so is there anywhere you can point me to learn?

I wish I did, I'm not really sure how the rootfs works - I would mount in looped in Linux and pick it apart if I was going to start messing with it.

Also, what is wrong? The startups folder should be the "end-all" for startup.txt files, I should have all the phones covered. If I don't, I'd like to fix it as there's going to be a new bundle (FRX05) soon!

Hi, I'm having problems using this on my htc touch pro. I'm getting a system is unable to respond, and asks to force close or wait. After that it restarts phone randomly. Sometimes I can get it to scroll the lock and use it until it restarts :S

I'm hoping it isnt the sd card like you mentioned before because I can't get another one :S

The reason I'm thinking it isnt the sd card is because this version of android works without problems on phone
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-touch-...rizon-gps.html

I just wanted the newer froyo :S

edit: Want to mention I'm on the cdma htc touch pro on sprint network.

This version is really speedy unfortunately on my telus cdma touch pro (raph800) I can't hear or be heard when I speak on the phone, also the lack of a menu button is a non-starter. The previous version had weird mapping (the TP power button was to return home and the home button with the menu button) but it worked though altogether slower.

I just copied this new verssion on the SD Card over the old version and overwrote the files.

Really cool though and this version was really snappy,

Thanks for this and the work you guys put into it.

has anyone been able to get swype on this yet?

There's a menu button... IIRC it's the middle/center button on the dpad.

What kernel are you using? I thought the sound issue was squashed... wait, are you on 'silent' mode?

Re: [BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX05 - "Stable" - Camera!

I noticed that the sound seemed diminished as well. It's ok when you have it to ear, but the speaker phone wasn't working.

The menu key is the enter key (circle on d-pad) now. The power button is actually the power button and not the home key like before. And Home key is home key again and not menu lol

Hi again, got a bit of a question to anyone that can answer. Is this thing "rooted"? Trying to use wifi tether and its telling me to root the phone. But when I look up instructions on how to, I can't get it to root right because it boots back into windows mobile lol.

Is it possible to make it rooted by another means?

Yes of course this build is rooted. Which wifi tether are you trying to use...?

I was using the wifi tether app i found in market :S I downloaded the wifitether.apk and installed it. Sorry if the name isnt right but thats what it shows up on screen.

Do you know of one that works on sprint network? I'm new to android so don't know much varity of apps or which ones are better

The built-in wifi tethering doesn't work? Don't know why you'd want an app when the functionality is provided in the system :p.

Before that was working, there were two options. XDAndroid Wifi Tether or 'barnacle' wifi tether (on the Market).

So pick your poison. I've never recommended/used anything other than those three I've listed above.

Also, if you want to do USB tethering, via adb and an app called "EasyTether" (again, on the Market) it's possible.

Update - reminded me to put this info in the FAQ, thanks ;).

by built in, do you mean the portable hotspot under wireless settings? I tried that, it gives me an error when I start it, don't know what error since it just says error under the grayed out portable hotspot checkmark box

Barnacle also didn't work, says something about failed loading drivers. That xdandroid wifi tether didnt have a working link to the kernel to download either.

I can stick with tethering in the windows mobile with wmwifitether I suppose, would have liked to do it in android though

The only link that matters is to the actual Android application, and it works flawlessly - just tried it myself.

I also forget the old RAPH's are on the TI chipset. For whatever reason on this chipset there is a bug - if you enable wifi once and turn it off, you'll never be able to re-enable it until you reboot. Perhaps this is the issue you're running into...

Yes, that is what I mean by built-in tethering. Works flawlessly for me, but we have different hardware, and I alas do not have my old hardware to test on (insurance replacement...)

hm, cant figure this out, nothing seems to be working for hotspotting :S

Thanks for your help though, I won't worry too much about hotspotting since I'm just playing with android, I like the Windows Mobile look a bit more with the touch flo design.

Do you happen to know how I can add contacts to phone? I mean without syncing to google account? I want the contacts to be stored on phone only and no where else, when I make a contact it doesnt show up since I have syncing off

I always sync with my el Goog account, never had an issue... works flawlessly.

If you don't want to sync with the Google account I guess you wouldn't be able to use the Market or anything else, but if you create contacts manually they should stick.

You seem to prefer WinMo... no one is forcing you to Android friend. I much prefer it, but that's personal preference. If you prefer WinMo, stick to it :p.

Hrm... try an older kernel. This new kernel might not play so well with the 500... hardly anyone has that phone, and I get very few people giving feedback on it... so that device has kinda fallen behind, unfortunately.

Use Ralph800 for your startup file, if you are on Sprint with a Touch Pro.

Try going to contacts->menu button->display options-> under " choose contacts to display" make sure " system group: my contacts" is selected.

I also don't like the fact that Google automatically synchronizes contacts. The first thing I do before adding any contact is download Titanium backup and remove the "contacts sync adapter" (calendar sync adapter may also be removed). This allows you to keep the Google account, without having contacts synchronized.

If you have to manually add your contacts, make sure to go to Menu->import/export and export your contact list to your SD card. Afterwards you can email the file to yourself and be able to access the list as long as you have your email setup.

Re: [BUILD] **Complete Froyo Bundle!!** FRX05 - "Stable" - Camera!

Thanks chokey, I had that system group turned off as I thought it was part of google syncing it to acc because it shows my contacts in google acc.

edit: as I'm playing with android some more, is there a fix for that wifi issue? I mean one from a few posts above saying how once its turned off it cant be turned on again unless rebooted. Since windows mobile 6.1 doesn't have this problem, can it be fixed on android with drivers or something?

update: still can't get the portable hotspot working :( but i've pretty much given up on it unless I see someone post how to get it working

Edit: speaker phone doesnt seem to be working either, only like 5-10% louder when using speaker when talkikng to someone

edit again lol: Is there anyway to port swype over to this version of android? I got the swype cab for windows mobile but cant find one for android that works on htc touch pro
