HTC Touch Pro (Sprint) touch screen woes

Hello Folks,

I need some help before I smash this thing in a rage. I have experienced multiple problems with my HTC Touch Pro (Model PPC6850SP, Sprint-branded). Not only do I have issues with the <expletive> Windows Mobile (I can't believe that Microsoft can get away with selling this software), my keyboard is now DOA and the touch screen does not respond correctly. For the sake of brevity, I will address the touch screen issue for now. I have tried the "align screen" multiple times, and for whatever reason I have to repeat it 10 or more times before it is "aligned", but it still does not respond correctly. In order to use a certain feature (for example, to tap a certain letter, number, or program), I usually have to touch or tap several millimeters below it. But sometimes (albeit rarely) it will work fine--very unpredictable. I downloaded the Sprint software upgrade from the HTC site, but the problem got worse. I did multiple hard resets , but to no avail.

I do not have insurance on the phone (I foolishly thought that a phone worth $500 would work for more than a year), and Sprint as well as HTC customer service has been terrible.

Any suggestions? Is this a common problem with this phone? Could it be a firmware issue (if so, how can I reset/upgrade it), a software issue, or a hardware issue? Regarding the touch screen (digitizer), can anyone point me to a link that shows how to remove and replace it? I thought I would give that a try because I will disassembling the phone to try to repair the keyboard.

Thanks in advance for your advice and suggestions.

Sean
