Re: Best GPS Software for TP2
Garmin XT cursor is really bad. It is very jerky. Not smooth at all. But lots of map for it. Some are open source and you can use for free.
I use to like TomTom7. Very smooth cursor. Oversea map are available. Now I use iGo8 which I think its the best GPS for WM. |

Re: Best GPS Software for TP2
Does anyone know if any of these programs will speak the directions when the display is off or the phone is locked? For example: keep the phone in your pocket but still get the spoken directions through a headset.
I tried it with Sprint Nav and TomTom, but those don't seem to do it. |

I will say that I can launch the program with active GPS tracking, turn off the display using the top button, turn on the display again, and everything is as I left it in the GPS software. I don't have to select the program from the UI, it just pops up immediately in the navigation screen. Now to see if it will continue to direct me. I anticipate this will work as I can still listen to various audio only sources when the display is turned off.

I think there are some apps out there that can shut the screen off that folks use for playing music with the screen off. I believe that should work for GPS apps to. The Device has to be on, but the screen doesn't really need to be.

Re: Best GPS Software for TP2
OK, I just tried this with my iGo8. While actually following a route in GPS mode, I am not able to turn off the screen. The button at the top of the phone does nothing! I can find no setting in the software that allows me to turn off the screen.

Re: Best GPS Software for TP2
Has anyone tried the Western European version of TomTom or Garmin XT?
I've successfully used the US & WE TomTom Nav6 on both my AT&T Tilt & AT&T Fuze but now they told me they're not supporting that app on the TP2 (and I can't get it to work). I just switched to Verizon. I need a Western European version and I'm leaning toward TT because of my past familiarity. Also, where can I buy the US TT Nav7? Going through the TT web site links, I couldn't find it on any of the following: Amazon, J&R, NewEgg, PC World or Mobile Planet. And the only source I found for the WE TT7 was TT UK. Thanks in advance. (I just found you guys and I've been browsing your excellent site for a few days and it looks like all of my questions/concerns are addressed in one way or another.) |

Re: Best GPS Software for TP2
I tried turning off the display with psShutXP. Sprint Nav continues to navigate and give directions, but it lags and updates so slowly anyway that it's unusable. TomTom won't continue with the display off, but it will while the phone is locked. However, when the phone is locked the display eventually turns off and TomTom will stop...
I haven't tried Garmin or iGo8 yet. |
