What's the point of the mute button?

Sorry for the partially pointless question, but what's the point of the mute button on the back of the TP2? It's supposed to mute the speaker phone during a call, but why would you want to do that? Also, the speaker turns off by itself when the call is finished, and if you pick up the phone, it'll turn itself off too. So... what is it used for?

that button makes it so that the other person can't hear what you are saying. I'm hoping i don't need to explain what that would be used for.

Re: What's the point of the mute button?

If you are in a business meeting, and have the phone on speaker and you want to discuss something that you wouldn't want the other party on the phone to hear....use the mute button.

Re: What's the point of the mute button?

Thanks for your reasonable reply Wesscoggin.

Until now, I didn't see the need for the mute button when you could just pick the phone up, but your answer makes sense.

Thanks again!

Re: What's the point of the mute button?

these phones are technically business equipment.... but a lot of people here aren't technically using them for that. If you never teleconference on your phone you might not realize what the mute button on the back is for....

A mute button on a telephone. Do you think it will catch on?

The worst part is, I'm still not convinced that he understands the concept of a mute button! LOL
