Re: S2U2 Vs Pocketshield

I tried them both and in the end settled on PS. I dont really like all the features that S2U2 has, much of them I never used. PocketShield actually helped my battery on both my TP and TP2. One thing I do when installing it is I disable the feature that controls the ansering of the phone, they may have got it to work better now but I just like not having to deal with it. All in all it is a cool app and does its just very well for me.

I used to use S2U2 but have switched to PS. I like the different options it offers to unlock the device. You can try the free version which lets you use all of the features. The only only thing is it will have random count downs for a couple of seconds before it let's you unlock. It happens so infrequantly I usually don't even bother putting my code in and use the trial version. Before you know it, I am flashing a new Rom and would need to put it in again......

I don't know about "better" but it sure is friendlier on battery life. If you want the look go with S2U2 but if you want function and ease use PS.

I would stay with S2U2 if the battery life was better. I just end up back at PS.

Have fun!

Depends what you like. PS is simple. S2U2 has lots of customization but you might run into some issues that's been reported. I vote for PS.

I used to use S2U2 but after I switched to pocket shield I have never looked back. I don't use the phone part of Pocket shield but as a lock it is great because it is simple and you hardly ever need to interact with it.

I agree with appzattack, disable the part that has to do with answering the phone and you wont have any problems

S2U2 is so far above PS in the features/looks department it's not even funny, but PS is great on battery life, so :(

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.7 (WindowsMobile; PPC; Opera Mobi/35541; U; en; Presto/2.1.1))

I use s2u2. I didnt like how ps looked and functioned. I dont have battery problems either. The only options enable are the lock when I hit power and auto dismiss notifications. I disable auto lock when screen dims and auto shutoff. I get through a whole day of work and my battery is still around 40%.

Exactly.

I really can't imagine anybody trying PS & then going back to the bloated s2u2.

I used s2u2 back in the titan days, but I would never use it anymore.

bump to Jmort...

I was a S2U2 user before jumping ship to PS. In fact jmort pointed me in that direction.

Since flashing to 6.5 and higher ROMs, I'm perfectly content with the slide lock that comes native to the 6.5. Simple, clean...pair it with Smart Lock...you're golden!

I agree with that.

I still prefer PS (mainly because that's what I'm used to), but if I didn't have PS I would go that route myself.

When v.2.10 came out I went back to S2U2 as the battery drain issue seems to be fixed. PS was too bland for me. If you use all the features then S2u2 isn't bloated at all. But if you are just looking for a simple lock program then PS would probably be better suited for you.

eman 11-16-2009 04:46 PM

Re: S2U2 Vs Pocketshield

A cool that PS offers is you can have it unlock to light. So when you pull it out of your case, it will automatically unlock. Hence, no need to even slide when it is out, and is fully protected while in case......

Sorry about the themes....That is the only thing not free. Only allows one with trial.......But you can see if you want to spend the money on it as all the lock features are available. I personally like the default theme the best after trying the others. Just put a nice background pic and you are good to go!

Seriously, S2U2? Bloated? LOL......ookk..

At any rate, the day A_C makes S2U2 not drain battery is the day I will switch back. I'm aching for reasons to get rid of PocketShield but none have come around. It simply is the best locking program that does not drain battery in the least.

What about v.2.12 that was supposed to also fix the battery drain. I'm telling you i have tried every version and battery takes a hit without really using your phone.

Whoops... it's hard to keep up with all the new versions sometimes. V.2.10 was better than v.2.04. But now I'm running v2.12 and the battery drain is only 1% an hour, give or take. It seems that it improved after a few days of running it. I'm not sure why it would, but that's my impression. I'm running Juicy's ROM, so that might add to the battery life.

I'm in this camp.

S2U2 is technically a really nice program, tons of features and a great price (lol).

But, it suffers from XDA-ism: too many g-damn options.

For the power-user/hobbyist, it's a boatload of fun. For those who want a simple, light locker that works without really any bugs (AFAIK), I think PocketShield is a better choice.

Make sure the theme(s) is in the "S" folder inside your PS folder. Once its there, go into you PS settings under design, your theme(s) should be in there. Once you select the theme that you want the gray bar turns green asking you to save it. A new screen will pop up asking if you want classic or split. Select what you want to change, click save and you should be good.

Re: S2U2 Vs Pocketshield

I've tried both versions of S2U2 and both have drained the battery quickly. I also have tried PS with a similar battery drain problem.

My TP2 is stock. Mail is checked every 2 hrs. Brightness is about 1/2 way. How are your batteries lasting so long? I installed PS again and the battery has gone down from 76% to 69% in about 30 mins.....please advise.

popdog54 11-18-2009 07:12 PM

Re: S2U2 Vs Pocketshield

One thing I've found with the TP2 is that the data connection stays on, which could be the reason your battery is draining. I never had that problem with my Mogul.

Whenever I know I won't be using my phone for a while I go into the Comm Manager and turn off the data connection.

Re: S2U2 Vs Pocketshield

I have been using S2U2 and haven't had any battery drain like everyone else is describing. I went from 100% to 70% yesterday with normal calls and texts. I like it, but I may just have to see what PS is like since everyone else likes it.

This is off S2U2's website under FAQ (http://s2u2.ac-s2.com):
Q. S2U2 consumes a lot of power?!
A. Make sure there is no music player running in the background.
A. Use digital clock without showing the second.
A. Don't use GIF wallpapers.
A. Don't use a folder of wallpapers.
A. Turn off "Show Appointment".
A. Turn off "Show Weather".
A. Turn on "Don't use Keyboard Hook".
A. Turn on "Ignore screen orientation"
A. If any "auto-rotation" application is installed, add "S2U2" to it's exception list.
A. Disconnect the data connection.
A. Update to v2.14 or later.

I've had a similar issue before with previous versions of S2U2. I've installed the new 2.14 version that GT2L posted at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=88640

Download the cab from post #3. Give it a try, this has been working a lot better for me in regards to battery drain.

x2. As a new TP2 owner and someone that recently tried both apps this is the truth. I use S2U2 simply because it looks cleaner and seems more up-to-par with the look and feel of the TouchFLO3D interface. I have noticed the battery drain however. Fortunately I charge everywhere I am so there's never an issue.
