However GoogleMaps didn't have this issue because it connected to the GPS device using a different interface (same interface GPSGate uses). The TP2 has the same chips as the Diamond so I question that it's a "hardware" issue.

I have the same belief.. Why would HTC or any carrier release a product that can't keep up with the GPS software.
I bet 0/100 people have this problem with VZNav or Sprint's GPS. |

Yeah I have heard. I ditched Tomtom a while back when I was on the Touch Pro/Diamond. Too much of a hassle for me. IGO8 is lovely. Nice variety of maps and pois. And it works without data connection(I think).

Re: Has the GPS lag problem been fixed with custom roms?
Simply NOT true... Using Tom Tom on 4 seperate Verizon TP2's, and the GPS Gate fix running in the background has all but cured my problem. The lag with Tom Tom was at least 5-10 seconds behind and now is 1 second behind. I don't care how fast I'm going on the Highway that is good enough to not miss any turns. I agree the core problem might be hardware related, but CLEARLY software makes it usable.
