Yeah I have heard. I ditched Tomtom a while back when I was on the Touch Pro/Diamond. Too much of a hassle for me. IGO8 is lovely. Nice variety of maps and pois. And it works without data connection(I think).

no amount of software will cure the lag its a hardware issue.

Simply NOT true... Using Tom Tom on 4 seperate Verizon TP2's, and the GPS Gate fix running in the background has all but cured my problem. The lag with Tom Tom was at least 5-10 seconds behind and now is 1 second behind. I don't care how fast I'm going on the Highway that is good enough to not miss any turns. I agree the core problem might be hardware related, but CLEARLY software makes it usable.

i never said software didn't make it usable, hence why i said iGO8 works great for me its "usually" only lagging by 15 meters, that's negligible. i said there will always be lag in the GPS as its a hardware issue. Like ive stated my Bluetooth GPS receiver has zero lag with no screwing around no gps gate and not tweaks. why? because its a better chipset.

so me saying the lag is caused ultimately by a hardware issue, and no amount of software will rid you of it completely is simply VERY true.

I totally agree.

I have two BT GPS units & if I use either of them I get no lag whatever.

I should of written my post to sound less attacking. I apologize for that.
I was just trying to illustrate that even though the hardware is flawed, software can be written to "Cure" the problem. Cure being a relative word in the first place. Cure in this case meaning usable to the end user. You can never say no lag on any device, as there is lag with everything, it just may be negligible as you put it.

I agree both Voque and Diamond would lag GPS using say iGuidance unless you used it through GPSGate. Any application that used a COM port to talk to GPS needed to use something like GPSGate.

However GoogleMaps didn't have this issue because it connected to the GPS device using a different interface (same interface GPSGate uses).

The TP2 has the same chips as the Diamond so I question that it's a "hardware" issue.

What about VZNav? They don't have the problem because they have AGPS right?
