I have a verizon tp2, running a stock rom(mighty rom was no problem either) and do not have any issue. I have maybe 200 contacts which are synced thru my hosted exchange, maybe thats the diff, but I have no issue or ever had one. Has it always been this way? If so then something with the rom. otherwise look to an app issue.

I have mightyrom installed it didn't happen with stock sprint rom. I believe it has something to do with the windows mobile contact manager versus the touch flo contact manager. not sure but all I know if i save the number again it recongizes it when they call me. If i don't save it it doesn't reconigze it strange. As far as software is concerend I have the mighty rom the blue theme and thats it. This was happening right after I installed mighty rom with no software installed.

Im syncing via google. Alot of my saved numbers arent perfectly saved either. Some have a 1 in front. Some a saved like this: 123.432.5332. My phone still shows the correct contact.

privus isn't bad. its a paid service though. cost me 5 a month. when a call comes in it will activate data give real callers name . like true caller id. then after it shuts data down. its a option. i go all day on my phone battery isn't a issue with privus.

Im pretty sure if you go to the dialer and mess with the settings there is an option for number formating you can change too that would help.

I ALWAYS save the area code and NEVER put a "1" before the number. if you also notice, the contact tab should automaticall format the number for you in this format (XXX) XXX-XXXX. That's how I have all my numbers saved.

What i am curious about is if your just saving the contacts to your sim card if that is the reason why its not working. My Stock Rom worked fine on caller id and it also works fine on MightyROM. I have copied all of my contacts to the sim and also have them in the rom.

Possible Solution

I've been hoping that my 1st post would be a contribution and not a question, so here it is. I just got my phone a week ago, and was also having this problem. I populated my contacts with PIM Backup. None of my calls would show the contacts as seems to be everyone else's problem. I just went through all of my contacts using Outlook, and made sure that they were all entered in exactly the same format (###) ###-####. I then synced with Active Sync with the conflicts set to change item on device (phone). Now it seems to work.
I also tried dialing out, if you don't dial the 10 digit number the way that it is stored in the phone, it doesn't work. If anyone can take this and run with it, I sure would like to have the proper fix.
