I'm having the same problem. Got tired of messing with it and got iconsoft phonex. It will replace the Windows Mobile dialer and caller ID works. I'd still like to see a fix if it exists though.

I love phonex but I wish it didn't eat so much battery. I wish there was ANY caller ID app that doesn't eat so much battery :/

im willing to bet the number that pops up and the number in your phonebook are slightly different. this happen to me before on tp1 and i had to either add a 1 to the numbers or format them a certain way so that the numbers matched exactly (dashes, parentheses and all). Im pretty sure if you go to the dialer and mess with the settings there is an option for number formating you can change too that would help.

ya something with the area code or auto prepend or whatever. I've got my phonebook off of my tp1 without a hitch.

What happens if you receive the call, then add the number to the existing contact overwriting the old number, does it work then?

I tried that, and it still didn't work. Also tried having the number in there twice with and without a "1" in front. Still didn't work.

I'm having the same problem. if I look the number in contacts and press the number to be called it recongizes the name and dials. Now if that same person calls me it shows the number and says unknown caller. now after the phone call is over if I choose to save existing contact and choose to save it to the same name it will say there is already a number asigned to that name do you want to override say yes. After that when that person calls in it will have the name and number great solution if you only have a few contacts. I have around 700 contacts so i can't do that for all the calls but the ones that come in I will do it. I believe it has something to do with the tf3d2.

It would helpif you say which rom you are running. Did this happen stock? I havent had this issue with the stock sprint rom or mightyrom. Im thinking your problem is due to either the rom you are running or software installed.

Stock Sprint ROM.

I have a verizon tp2, running a stock rom(mighty rom was no problem either) and do not have any issue. I have maybe 200 contacts which are synced thru my hosted exchange, maybe thats the diff, but I have no issue or ever had one. Has it always been this way? If so then something with the rom. otherwise look to an app issue.

Re: TP2 has weak caller ID software,Any fix for the caller ID issue ?

I have mightyrom installed it didn't happen with stock sprint rom. I believe it has something to do with the windows mobile contact manager versus the touch flo contact manager. not sure but all I know if i save the number again it recongizes it when they call me. If i don't save it it doesn't reconigze it strange. As far as software is concerend I have the mighty rom the blue theme and thats it. This was happening right after I installed mighty rom with no software installed.

Im syncing via google. Alot of my saved numbers arent perfectly saved either. Some have a 1 in front. Some a saved like this: 123.432.5332. My phone still shows the correct contact.

privus isn't bad. its a paid service though. cost me 5 a month. when a call comes in it will activate data give real callers name . like true caller id. then after it shuts data down. its a option. i go all day on my phone battery isn't a issue with privus.

I ALWAYS save the area code and NEVER put a "1" before the number. if you also notice, the contact tab should automaticall format the number for you in this format (XXX) XXX-XXXX. That's how I have all my numbers saved.

Re: TP2 has weak caller ID software,Any fix for the caller ID issue ?

What i am curious about is if your just saving the contacts to your sim card if that is the reason why its not working. My Stock Rom worked fine on caller id and it also works fine on MightyROM. I have copied all of my contacts to the sim and also have them in the rom.

Possible Solution

I've been hoping that my 1st post would be a contribution and not a question, so here it is. I just got my phone a week ago, and was also having this problem. I populated my contacts with PIM Backup. None of my calls would show the contacts as seems to be everyone else's problem. I just went through all of my contacts using Outlook, and made sure that they were all entered in exactly the same format (###) ###-####. I then synced with Active Sync with the conflicts set to change item on device (phone). Now it seems to work.
I also tried dialing out, if you don't dial the 10 digit number the way that it is stored in the phone, it doesn't work. If anyone can take this and run with it, I sure would like to have the proper fix.

Re: TP2 has weak caller ID software,Any fix for the caller ID issue ?

Although I have a Sprint Diamond I am having the same problem, and when I google this site and others, users comments that it seems to happen to people upgrading ROMs or transitioning to new phones - it doesn't just stop working. It also seems to happen across carriers and across custom/stock ROMs.

I restored Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes via Sprite - everything else I re-installed manually. I'm going to try srwsr's solution to see whether it works and will report back.

SUCCESS thanks to srwsr!!! This was a restore issue, not a ROM issue. I refreshed the Contacts sync between Outlook and my Diamond, and now the Caller ID match with contact works fine. Note that I use Intellisync to customize my sync - I like having more control than you get through Active Sync.

I have not had any caller ID issues and restored my contacts with pim backup from my touch pro 1.

However, people having issues with caller ID go grab the HTC touch pro 2 caller ID hotfix and see if it resolves your problem.

Give me a shout if it fixes you issue.

Cheers,

Mikee

PhotoContacts Pro is great. cost a little but it hasn't let me down yet and adds lots of versatility to the phone.:headbang:

Re: TP2 has weak caller ID software,Any fix for the caller ID issue ?

I finally got tired of dealing with this...did a hard reset, restored contacts from Outlook, and it works fine now, so it must have been something I installed or a corrupt file or database somewhere.
