Iv'e actually returned 3 unlocked TP's w/o a problem! One of the reps there even told me straight out that he would take it back even if it was flashed to a different rom! (of course that's probably an isolated case because he was the one who introduced me to flashing in the 1st place... he was running MM's WM 6.5 of his original TP.)
But do u think they actually go to the bootloader screen in the sprint repair shop?! I highly doubt they check that...

the carriers are the ones who ultimately decide weather or not things like flashing and rom developement here on ppc geeks and xda is going to be allowed. the more phones that are returned unlocked or worse flashed to a custom rom will eventually push them to either take action against the users or the sites that host the software. they may also push htc and microsoft to make it more difficult to unlock the phones in the first place.

While the tech who takes back the phone may not check you can bet the repair center does keep track of these things.

Just because you can do it does not make it a good idea

just want to verify with you guys or cmonex :
since flashing the "shipped stock rom" or original provider rom(ie Sprint) does not require the phone to be unlocked..shouldnt we relock it first then flashing the stock rom second?
does it matter if you flash the stock rom AFTER relocking the phone?

i don't think you can lock your phone with a custom rom on it. i wouldn't try. You should always flash the shipped stock rom, then relock.
