Re: Post your Keyboard Config

Briggs' Ultimate Keyboard Config

I got ideas from everyone else in this thread, thanks for getting the wheels turning. This keyboard config attempts to add functionality to various buttons withotu changing the way most operate by default.

Legend: C = click DC = Double Click, TC = Triple click, LP = Long Press

Here's the rundown;

FN + x = ctrl + x = cut
FN + c = ctrl + c = copy
FN + v = ctrl + v = paste
FN + a = ctrl + a = select all
FN + z = ctrl + z = undo
FN + y = ctrl + shift + z = redo
FN + g = | = Seprartor Character
FN + t = tab

FN + left = sc: ctrl + left, dc: home
FN + right = sc: ctrl + right, dc: end

FN + mailbox: launch opera
FN + SMS: launch skyfire

Volume Rocker:
click and long press are the same as default and will just adjust the volume.
c = default key action, lp = default key action, repeat every 250 ms.
double click is up/down arrows, triple click is pg up/pg down

Power Button (on top of phone)
SC: Default Key Action (suspend)
DC: Power Management: Toggle screen off (to keep music playing and turn screen off
LP: Emulate Key F22 - Lock Device

Send Key
C: Default Action: Send
DC: left
LP: voice command

End Key
C: Default Action: End
DC: Right
LP: Launch app XDA Shutdown
TC: Launch Battery Monitor

Windows button (HOME)
Click: open start menu (default)
DC: open communications manager
LP: open windows taskamanager (the one that shows even exclusive process)

Back Button:
C: Default action: bacl
DC: Close active Window
LP: Emulate Key: Enter.

Screen Rotation:
double click mail box - rotate 270
triple click back - rotate 0

Mute button:
I designed this to add functionality when usign the TFLO3D MP3 Player and the phone is upside down.
C: default action
DC: Down (Next song)
TC: Up (Previous Song)
LP: Enter (Play/Pause)

You can use the DC power button to turn off the screen after executing one of these commands when the phone is upside down and you can't see the screen. However to use one of these commands while the phone is upside you will have to first hit the power key (single click) to wake the phone out of suspension. You see, even if you just do the screen power toggle and the music keeps running, the timer for the device to suspend will still be set to one minute (even though you wouldn't notice it). So you have to hit the power key at the top to wake the device as this is the only key that will accept input while the device is suspended.

Re: Post your Keyboard Config

Does anyone else have this problem? I have a TP2 and I exhaustively mapped all the buttons on the keyboard (save a few) to additional functions. Specifically, I mapped all the default values to single clicks, function button values to double clicks, and all CAPS values where applicable to long presses. In addition, I've remapped the home, back and volume buttons to additional functions as well. It works great except for one big problem... The resulting lag in the keyboard makes it unusable. It can't keep up and often skips characters in trying to do so. I'm not a very fast typist either. When I remove all keys the lag disappears. I don't know if it's a memory or processor issue, but it seems it can't go through all the keystroke mappings fast enough to keep up. I've attached my configration file. Is there an alternate way to do this without using as much resources? Perhaps bypass the key map for default strokes so that it wouldn't have to process so may instructions? Would mapping to "send to active window" as opposed to operating system where applicable help? I've tried changing the instructions from emulate key press to send text to active window on the long press instructions and have not seem much if any improvement. Which is faster emulate or paste? I used to use MagiKBLite with very little customization and it worked beautifully on the TP, but this doesn't work on the TP2. I really would love for this to work! Any help would be appreciated!!!

Re: Post your Keyboard Config

I've been playing with various configurations...and it seems the slow down occurs whenever there's a double or triple press mapped to a key. The long press doesn't slow it down. I guess it has to figure out what gesture you're making and it takes a split second. Unfortunately, it limits the functions to single press and long press only for keyboard keys to be at a usable speed. Any way around this? Thanks.

I noted the same problem earlier. That's why I rely on fn + buttons instead of double/triple/long press for the letters on the keyboard.
