HOW-TO: Modify your Touch Pro 2 Charging Cradle for CDMA
For those of you who own the HTC CR G300 desktop cradle and now have a Touch Pro 2 CDMA model (Sprint/Verizon etc.) and are looking for a charging cradle that will fit I have put together a small how-to on making your original cradle work for the TP2. The alteration is fairly simple and requires only a few household tools. You will need the following tools: -Xacto knife or razor blade -Torx screwdriver -Flat screwdriver -Hacksaw (blade for cutting metal) -Rotozip tool (not necessary but will give cleaner results) Step 1: -Turn the cradle over and with your Xacto knife, peel back the manufacturer's sticker revealing the Torx screw underneath and remove. Step 2: -Flip over the cradle and using your flat head screwdriver, insert it between the top and bottom portions of the cradle near the back corner. (You will need to pry up a bit to release the hooks.) You may see the appearance of some bubbling under the finish on the top cover of the cradle. This is normal and will be "rubbed" away once the modifications are done. Once you hear the first hook release, work your way around the side (I used my fingers for the rest) The top should pop off cleanly. Step 3: -Remove the four (4) Torx screws holding down the metal bracket. (This bracket is used to weigh the cradle down and is not necessary if you do not wish to alter it in the later steps) Step 4: -Pull the charging bracket from it's sleeve and move it back out of the way and using your Xacto knife, cut away the small portion of the plastic sleeve as shown. Step 5: -With the red posrtions of plastic now cut away, slide the charging port back into the sleeve to the left as shown bwlow (It should fit in snug for now, but when the top goes back on it will be solid) Step 6: (Optional) -Using a hacksaw, remove a small portion of the metal bracket on the left side (since we have moved the charing port to the left it will now be in the way) Step 7: -Reassemble the metal bracket. Step 8: -Using a Rotozip tool or your Xacto knife, cut away a small portion of the top cover's charing port hole. Take your time with this and don't rush it if your using a Rotozip. I used a vice to hold the cover to make the cut to keep it neat. Once you get it perfect, re-install your parts and make sure you have a good fit. Once you snap the top cover back on and are satisfied with your results, use a microfiber cloth/towel and polish/rub the top cover and the bubble-like marks will go away and you should be left with a fully functional charing cradle as shown below: **The insert shown is NOT the Touch Pro 2 insert which can be purchased for this charger. I can confirm it will NOT work as it is only meant for the GSM version of the phone without the 3.5mm headphone jack. The insert used I belive is for the Diamond 2 and came with the charger which I ordered.
