That is not true at all, I have used both igo & Garmin extensively (they both lag about the same, neither one is a true standalone NAV replacement IMHO)

Garmin XT works extremely well for me on the VZN unit. I cant really complain. Sometimes there is lag but not a deal breaker

I think Garmin lags more on my Touch pro then it did on my 6800. I did not notice any lag on my 6800. I think it was my over bloated rom on my Touch Pro that slowed it down or the gps settings. I will try it on my sprint 6.1 TP2 today. Garmin killed the ability to connect to the bluetooth headset on my brothers TP2 tmobile when the TP2 first came out. Had to hard re set to fix it, tested it 3 times.

Pardon my ignorance here...but from what I have learnt is... that the lag on Garmin / tomtom on the phone as opposed to the actual GPS units is that these phones use cell phone towers to communicate....and that causes the lag. (personally...I prefer Garmin but none the less...all these packages are good in their own ways)

Just thought I'd share
Cheers!

WOW - a NINE (9) month bump! :)

But since it's already been bumped twice: Garmin XT works just fine on 6.5.3. A bit slower to start maybe than 6.1, but no big problem. Quite functional & works nicely on one of the most recent 6.5.3 builds (23128).

I'll jump on the bump bandwagon!
Garmin XT ROCKS!

Unlike Goog maps, bing.. you DON"T need the internet, so if you use it for hunting or fishing in Bummm F Egypt like I do... the others don't work, as there are no towers to pull their maps down. I must have basemaps & detail maps (logging roads, etc) ON my SD card, 8 miles back on the great divide you won't get squat for a tower...

I turn all radios off (airplane mode), set backlight to lowest & bring an extra battery, lasts for many days.

Re. tower questions above.. 3 ways to get GPS signal
1. tower triangulation (location btwn 1/5 mile & 1/2) (poor) (No GPS chip in phone)
2. GPS chip in phone
3. Using both (TP2) (faster)

Faster yet:
And you can assist satellite lock in with progs "QuickGPS" which downloads all sat locations from internet every week & uses phone as a computer to assist fast GPS lock in based off anticipated/estimated satellite locations (from downloaded satellite tracking data). AND, using AGPS check box in settings/other

its about 1gb total. the map is like 980 mgs i think. You can delete the extra languages once installing though to get another 40 mgs or so back.

I second this. If Im talking on the phone the TP2 cant update the map from the internet using google maps. Also I live on the big island of Hawaii and its Bumm F Egypt so most of the time I cant even call using the phone. I rely on Garmin XT. I tryed tom tom with my last 2 ppc but it was too buggy. It had a few GREAT options garmin is missing. Visa Versa
