How is the keyboard?

Since I can't seem to find a running demo unit in town maybe someone can answer my quick questions:

The on-screen keyboard: is it good? Does it have predictive/reactive text matching? That is, can I type something way wrong and it fixes it, like on the Hero or iPhone? Or does it just have regular buttons?

Re: How is the keyboard?

It's pretty good. There are a few different text correction options you can choose from.

Re: How is the keyboard?

I think he is asking how is the physical keyboard and does it have predictive input.
Unfortunately, I for one have no idea and would also like to know how to enable it if there is one.

His post says "on-screen KB", not physical KB.

The on-screen KB is really nice, but I still prefer TouchPal 3.5

Re: How is the keyboard?

The on screen keyboard is nice, even for my big fingers.

I have been trying to get used to it actually so I can move to phones without slide out physical keyboards since that seems to be the direction everyone is going after the iPhone has come out...

The only shortcoming is the d-pad - since there is no d-pad on the phone, they've put the arrow keys at the bottom of the on-screen keyboard. I find myself tapping the arrows accidentally when I go to hit the space bar instead and so my typing gets inserted somewhere it doesn't belong. But other than that, I find myself just using ABC mode and typing surprisingly fast.

XT9 mode has predictive abilities like you wanted. They're not automatically corrective like the iPhone's, but they do alright I think. They predict corrections to common thumb-typing mistakes as well.

I use fingerkeyboard on mine from the HTC HD, works well, I haven't found a T9 button yet though.

By the way, TouchPal uses it's own proprietary predictive setup (they call it T+) & it is awesome (I can type insanely fast using that). T+ works far better than any regular T-9 setup I have tried.....

Re: How is the keyboard?

The onscreen keyboard is still a bit crammed for me. However I am a big guy. 6'3" 260 lbs.
My hands are not massive, but big enough to like the physical keyboard better. I too am trying to get used to the onscreen one and will probably be most happy once the Leo is out. I am looking forward to that phone. Too bad it's not coming sooner.
