Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

Someone needs to setup a poll:

Which will arrive first?
- Carrier update ROMS for WM65
- Windows Mobile 7 Launch Event

Here is a timeline:

- Carrier update ROMS for WM65
- Android takes over 90% of WM market share
- Windows Mobile 7 Launch Event

Trust me..if Microsoft is bad at 1 thing, is standing by their manufacturers to make sure hold their image. I mean Google is always holding up any phone with its OS...

Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

Just got off the phone with Verizon support about a billing issue, and casually asked about the WinMo 6.5 upgrade. She didn't know, but called a data rep. After about 3-4 minutes on hold, she came back and said they told here that once they get the upgrade, it takes 1-2 months for testing/certification before release. No mention of if they already had the update and were testing it. I will be pleasently surprised if we see it on Big Red before Christmas.

Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

I emailed dan@sprint.com yesterday with a pretty ominous sounding email about the power-user community being pretty upset about it and they feel cheated & used by how Sprint implied that we would get an upgrade on launch. I mentioned that the rumor was early 2010 and if it were true, that was unacceptable. Got a response today from someone and they sounded a little concerned and wanted to talk about it and wanted my number. I replied back saying (without implicating sources) that we already knew there was an upgrade rom from HTC ready to go and it had been leaked, but in such a way that we can't use it. I used that to call them out on any excuse of not having one to release.

We'll see if they respond.

I've got a problem with "paper launches" and this was most definitely that. I'm sure Microsoft wasn't thrilled about the number of handsets on store shelves after they coordinated a global release.

Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

Wow...there are some impatient people out there. This thread is proof that people can never be satisfied. I tell you what, for those that cannot wait, write a letter to Bill Gates and see how far you get. Give the damn upgrade time to flow through the channels. Besides...this was a release from MICROSOFT. Sprint would have to ensure that the Software doesnt screw up peoples phones. This along with other carriers. This is why they take time to ensure that it works on the network. Otherwise most of you impatient people would complain that it isn't working right. C'mon people, lets just wait for a good product to get here.

I've been saying the same thing.

I am assuming we will have an unlocker before that anyway & then it will all be immaterial.

Re: 6.5 is here, where is the upgrade?

It's crazy. Maybe the hold up it HTC. They have to integrate TF3D and all their menu enhancements, etc. But 6.5 was RTM a while back. I thought when it was Released To Manufacturing testing started then. Could be wrong but I would've thought it would be ready by now for all manufacturers.
