Anyway to speed up file explorer?

I've noticed the built in file explorer does ok except when you try to go from my device---->windows. When I click the windows folder, it takes the device a good 3min or so to show all the files. I think it's because there are 100's of files under that folder, and it just wont load any quicker.

Is there an option to get it to speed up? I wonder if resco explorer will load it quicker? All I know is that it is painfully slow. Anyone elses that slow when trying to click that folder?

In fact, I just tested it, and that color wheel spun for 3min 45 sec. That's ridiculous, and not only that, that just drains the battery.

Let me see if I can comprehend what you are saying. So you are saying that when you go into file explorer and open your windows folder it takes almost 4 freaking minutes? If thats the case then something has to be wrong with your phone. Have you tried doing a hard reset? When I go to my windows folder it literally takes just a few seconds to open up all the way, maybe 3 to 5 seconds or so.

Re: Anyway to speed up file explorer?

I have noticed it takes a lot longer for File Explorer to pull up Folders like Windows if you have the option for view set to sort by file type. Set it to sort or show by name and that should def pull up faster.

Re: Anyway to speed up file explorer?

This issue is fixed in wm6.5...I have yet to see anything to make file explorer load faster. Otherwise there are alternative faster file explorers.

Re: Anyway to speed up file explorer?

I have it set to show by name and last night I clicked on Windows folder and it just kept spinning for over 10 minutes and I could never recover file explorer ( it stayed stuck there spinning even after soft reset.) Finally had to hard reset to get my phone back. Used Total Commander after that and Windows folder opens fine with that utility.

Re: Anyway to speed up file explorer?

10 minutes and a lock up? That is a problem. Opening the windows folder on my phone takes about 6 seconds ... much longer than the other folders ... but nowhere near 10 minutes. That would make me worry.

At least Total Commander is a work around for you. The hard reset didn't help?

Re: Anyway to speed up file explorer?

It always takes a LOT longer to open the Windows folder because of the hundreds of manila files it has to sort through.

It is not an option yet, but if you could cook a ROM without TF in it, it would then open Windows almost immediately.

Re: Anyway to speed up file explorer?

Yeah, having Explorer sort by anything other than name causes issues, and so does having the "Show All Files" option checked, even though for most of us it's almost a necessity.

But let me throw a little sarcasm into the fire... you're expecting a directory with pretty much 98% of the phone's contents to open in "a few seconds"? Seriously?! I know File Explorer is really slow (I use Total Commander most of the time), but sheesh, let's have a slightly realistic expectation too. I mean, my Windows folder has 7,217 files in it. I'd like to see you guys sift through all that in 3 seconds, lol.
