Anyone try this latest version: Nav N Go iGO 8 v8.3.2.152657 (Jul 21 2010) - R3 PDA update version

.

Actually, it doesn't run hot at all. In addition, battery life has drastically improved. Up to two days on a charge with the stock battery. It's not just me. Others in the overclock threads have noticed this as well. The reason is that, when not in use (ie: standby) the device is clocked to a lower speed. Also, when in use as a phone, the device is clocked-down. This seems to avoid the old SOD. I haven't had an SOD since I started OC'ing.

I'm hesitant to try the new GPS as everything is working so well now...

There seems to be two primary methods.

1. OC_Auto 4.21 uses Msm7kCpuSpeed, MortScript, and a script to control how the phone clocks. The script also takes care of the SOD issues.
2. OCT 1.5 is a stand-alone product that constantly monitors how the device is being used and over/under clocks on a sliding scale depending on usage.

Both methods work and have their proponents. There was an earlier method that also used Msm7kCpuSpeed, but that had SOD issues. I don't believe it is popular any more (but it was the first). I am using OC_Auto 4.21 as it came out before OCT 1.5 and it works just fine.

Msm7kCpuSpeed was originally written for the first Touch Pro (I believe) but it works for all Qualcom processors in the same family. Ignore any statements about only working when connected to AC; battery works the same now.

There have been quite a few threads on Over-Clocking, but those are the topics I would suggest for searching. I started on this thread post #281 that starts on page 29. The previous pages refer to the older/less favorable version I mentioned earlier.

Are you currently using Nav N Go iGO 8 v8.3.2.152657 (Jul 21 2010)? What (if any) are the differences?

I was thinking it's odd that igo8 works fine on my crappy Mio with 64MB of RAM but it doesn't work well on my phone with 288MB of RAM. TTS barely works and every audio program I try eventually closes while Igo8 is open because of RAM issues.

Which got me thinking...it has to be because of the incredibly large resolution. Is there anyway to have Igo8 run at half the resolution for example yet still remain full screen? I understand the image will be blockier or whatever but I'm willing to live with that. Thanks, if anyone knows!

What advantage is there in running Igo8 versus Google Maps or Bing? Just curious because I have never used Igo8 and the screen shots look pretty nice.

The primary benefit is being able to use GPS when you are outside of a good data connection. Google Maps/Bing require a data connection as the maps are not located on your phone, where iGo and other GPS applications store the maps on your SD card.

I have to admit I am using Bing (generic, not Verizon version) more than iGo these days, but it's still good to know I have the capability if I need it.

Do I have to have the exact version in the first post to have this work?

Depends on what you mean by "exact"...

The version referenced in the original post is the PNA version. You have to copy a shortcut to the start folder in windows to have an icon to launch. I'm using the PDA version which provides an icon automatically. Both are the same basic version (8.3x) with minor differences.

While I'm not certain (there is now an updated version available, see chong67's post previous page), I believe any version in this series will work in the same way. The maps have to match the version.
