I don't trust mobilespeedtest at all. I tried it out and got 12Mb/s on EDGE (impossible), then did it again and got 14Mb/s. It said I downloaded their file in .58 seconds when it took maybe 45 seconds.

Re: Best site for mobile speedtest?

OK, so I played around with these speed tests a bit today.

Using IE on a Verizon TP2 with WinMo 6.1 while running TouchFlo. Following a MemMaid RAM Recliam run, nothing else running in the background and solidly in 3g with 3 signal bars showing. If an option for file size was given, I always chose to download the 1MB file. I ran three tests per service and found that each time, the second and third tests seemed to give a slightly higher, but consistant result with regards to that specific site (ie results were always exacly the same on the 2nd/3rd tests). So the results were:

http://www.dslreports.com/:
1558kbit/sec
.279sec latency
5.49sec d/l time

www.mobilespeedtest.com
322.38KB/sec
which @ 8bits/byte=2579.04kbits/sec!!!

www.inetworktest.com/wired
778kbps, which I assume translates as kbit/sec? So half the speed of DSL Reports and less than 1/3 as mobilespeedtest.

http://www.speedtest.net/mini.php
Ran five tests, since every one was all over the board (worst of the bunch, test-to-test). Results were up and down every test. Not increasing or decreasing each time.
averaged right around 600kbps download (5 tests ranged from 214!-827kbps)
averaged right around 250kbps upload (5 tests ranged from 102-310kbps)

Don't know why my results were so low yesterday, I only ran the program once and had a few other things going at the time, so who knows. But the bottom line seems to be, if your going to hang your hat on these results, pick one test site and stick with it for consistancy sake. Individually, readings remain consistant on each site, but when compared to each other, results are all across the board.

Just my experience.

Thank you for this. Exactly why I started the thread. There's nothing consistent!

Yeah, prolly cause you used Skyfire or Opera 9.7 Turbo or Mini . You need to use IE on your device.
