Re: Graphics acceleration coming with Verizon 6.5 update! [unconfirmed]

I have been using my new Sprint Tp2 for a week now and I have been very disappointed in how my iGO 8 runs. To me it looks like it has no horsepower at all. Bums me out. If these so called "Drivers" get released, will it fix this problem?

They should...run iGO8 on anything with drivers, and they run beautifully. The device is pretty solid (albeit using tech from 2007), it's the drivers that need work. Those with ATI graphics cards can relate...the hardware is FAR superior to anything Nvidia has, yet the drivers blow chunks.

Well this was written in the Qualcomm specs for the ATI IMAGEON chip that there is a significant smaller battery use in comparison to just the CPU. How much of an improvement overall may be harder to say as the CPU is not the only consumer of energy.

RonDott..what does Nvidia vs ATI have to do with phones?

Don't you guys think that with the newer phone chipsets coming out that maybe HTC would have a little more reason to push for newer drivers in order to beef up the power of the Touch Pro 2? It would be great if they do.

Re: Graphics acceleration coming with Verizon 6.5 update! [unconfirmed]

Had a call from Executive support earlier to get more info about drivers...they weren't willing to release anything aside from the already confirmed Oct 6th WinMo6.5 release. What I did find out is that the Imagio has a recorded date of Oct 20th...it may come out sooner or later or even not at all, but it is marked in Verizon's internal system somewhere that a target release date is the 20th. Also, November and December will be a "big" month for Verizon. LOTS of phones will be getting released (a few 6.5 phones, the Shoales, another Blackberry). I'm thinking of just returning the TP2 and tough it out with a dumbphone or my broken TP1 until the Sholes (god I would LOVE to switch to something with a LOT of developer support behind it...not something we're hacking together with closed source files).

Was this your original source about the drivers? The Imagio was publically announced in a press release as being available starting October 6th.

imagio:
http://www.engadget.com/tag/imagio/

note the second post.

maybe the 20th is when the stores will be getting the phone in, sounds pretty concrete the phone will be released on the 6th. as far as drivers go we can only hope and cross some fingers. adding tv feature to the imagio seems like it would need somethin to help push at...but maybe not

Re: Graphics acceleration coming with Verizon 6.5 update! [unconfirmed]

@MrGoodCat You are correct sir! Oct 6th for online and telesales, Oct 20th for retail: http://www.mobileburn.com/news.jsp?Id=7930 (via your Engadget link)

@Laos101 When is your 1 or 2 year upgrade happening? Call up telesales, most of the time you get an agent who can push the date up 5-6 months. There is a $20-25 early upgrade fee though.

Re: Graphics acceleration coming with Verizon 6.5 update! [unconfirmed]

You don't have to read a 3rd party article to for official word on the Imagio. Directly from Verizon:

http://news.vzw.com/news/2009/10/pr2009-09-30b.html

My point is that if your sources said the 20th for the Imagio and/or "sooner or later or not at all", I wouldn't trust them very much on whether we're getting drivers or not.
