Re: Easiest way to get CAB files to your PPC, in my opinion

One word: Mesh

I use Mesh on my desktop and have a sync'd folder called "Mobile". I drag and drop .cab files into all the time, they sync to the cloud automatically.

On my phone, I browse to m.mesh.com and pull the .cabs that way. I can then save them to my device or just "open" them directly to install/save space.

Now if I want to install the cab on someone's phone, I can go to that site and pull them down too. I always have the .cabs in the cloud.

Easy and to the point.

I haven't tried the Mesh method above. Sounds like it has potiential. But, I'm with the OP, emailing has got to be the best/fastest way overall. I use yahoo for my email. You can open your yahoo mail on your computer and email the cabs to the same email you sent them from. You can email as many as you want. Thats how I do it. I"m gonna try mesh tonight though.

Re: Easiest way to get CAB files to your PPC, in my opinion

i connect my TP2 to my home network/drive.. it takes 2 seconds to get cab to the phone since i can browse my network files directly with pocket file explorer or total commander.

all the data i download on my PC can be access on the device instantly with this method.

This is excellent, thanks for sharing. I set my laptop to automatically sync my "Touch Pro 2" folder to Mesh. So know as soon as I download to this folder it shows up on Mesh automatically. I then bookmarked m.mesh.com in opera.

Good stuff and very easy/fast!

This is already popular in other countries, to stick QR codes on all sorts of things so you can lookup info on it on your phone etc. So you generate a QR code on the PC, then use the camera on the phone with recognition software to read it off your monitor, and the phone can then launch your browser and download it for you. Much faster then email / hotsync, etc... There are many ways to generate a QR code and several reader applications for WinMo, but the following is the setup I use that I find works best on the Touch Pro 2.

1.) Download the "Mobile Barcoder" Plugin for Firefox.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2780
This is a great plugin. At the bottom of any webpage, is a box icon that if you put your mouse on it, it will generate a QR code of the current page. But even more useful, if you right click any Link, there will be a "Create Barcode from Link" option that you can select that will generate a QR code of the link! That means if you want to download a cab or file, just right click it's download link, and you can get a direct URL barcode to that file. You can also select a block of text and right click / generate a code from that too. TO make recognizing barcodes quicker/easier for the phone, I suggest you go into the Add On's options for Mobile Barcoder, and set the barcode size to Extra Large. With this, and my 100" 1280x720p DLP Projector, I can recognize QR codes easily from my couch 10 feet away with my phone, which just looks really cool. But any monitor will work even at a few feet.
2.) Next you need a reader. The best I've tried for the TouchPro2 at least, is Quickmark. I-nigma is another but doesn't seem to play well with this phone. Download Quickmark here:
http://www.quickmark.cn/En/basic/download.asp
You'll have to register to download it but ya, it's great. Once you got it installed, just point the camera at the barcode and wham, you'll get the URL or whatever you generated the code for! Just push Access, it opens opera and downloads the file. So simple!
I had read about this a while ago, but never had any reason to use it, now there 's a firefox extension I'm all in.

BTW if you guys want the quickmark reader without signing up, use "Bugmenot.com", go here and use one of the password/accounts listed on the page.

I just did this as well. I installed the Network Plugin. Now when I download the cabs I d/l them to my MyBook, then with total commander I go to that folder and install straight from there, I dont even bother pulling them over, works great and is super fast. Love it!

Re: Easiest way to get CAB files to your PPC, in my opinion

The main benefits to the 2d barcode method I mentioned is that you don't need to plug in the phone, don't need anything done to your pc/network other then one firefox plugin (though, what I do is just VNC into my home rig to use firefox when I'm not home and as such I just need the vncviewer app which fits on any usb flash drive). And it's very fast, and you're not downloading anything on your PC which is great if you're not home, you're downloading directly to your phone.

If I'm reading about a program I'm interested in, just point my phone at the screen and I've got it, really that simple.
