Re: Post Your Favorite / Best / Most Used GPS Nav for TP2 ?

I've been using IGo since 2005, there's no match for it's response time or graphics. As we all here in this forum do the IGo has many extras meaning u may change the skin to a variaty available online, plus TTS, 3d graphics and even replace the borring arrow by your car!

I love the software and only found 3 cons so far: 1) either u hack it or your stuck to the memory card it comes in (I'm stuck!); 2) no traffic information and 3) No free updates on maps or anything, u have to pay for all new stuff from Nav n Go!

My 2 cents!

GarminXT... I don't have any of the others and its simply because I have been happy with Garmin to date (don't want to spend yet another $100 bucks.) Garmin is simple, the interface is not bad, and I can easily play music and nav at the same time without having troubles....

It's also the only nav program that shows the main entrance to my community, as all other make you go in through the back entrance because the front one does not exist on other maps. It's the only one I will use.
When I go to IGO8's website, there is nothing about a Windows Mobile version with US/NA maps. My searching so far indicates that this is sold as "OnCourse Navigator" - is this correct, or is there some way to get IGO8 directly, with US/NA maps?

When I looked at OnCourse Navigator's website, it indicates that the application must be used on the SD card you buy from them. I just ordered a 16gb SD card for my VZW HTC TP2, and the biggest OCN has is 8gb. No way I'm going to have to switch cards just for GPS. Is there a way to work around this?

If IGO8 ends up being a non-started for the above reasons, I'm tempted by CoPilot Live 8. The description sounds quite good. But I just contacted them, and there is no trial version, so I'd be risking $35 to try it. Not a huge amount, but still...

Thanks!

I have used GarminXT, IGO & CoPilot.

I'm not sure about IGO, but you can easily "crack" Garmin to run from any mem card (I have it running from a 16 gig Sandisk). Once it is activated, that card is good to go from then on. You can reflash the phone, pull the card out & use it in another phone etc etc etc to your hearts content & it will keep on working with no hassle.

CoPilot on the other hand has the most irritating annoying activation setup I have ever used (& my copy is a legally purchased copy). Because of this, I would highly advise people NOT to buy this software. It checks your activation online every single time you start it & if you make even the tiniest change in the system it will come up as unactivated. The POS almost NEVER worked when I needed it to, I must have activated it 30 times. It got so aggravating I finally gave up on it & stayed with GarminXT & don't even install CoPilot anymore.....

The really annoying thing is, you are supposed to go through this whole procedure to deactivate it before you make any changes to your phone & then reactivate it again when you're done. Of course when you decide to flash to a new ROM, you have totally forgotten about this (or never knew it in the first place) so after the flash it refuses to reactivate the next time you attempt to run it (it thinks it's already activated on another system). Now, you're stuck emailing there tech support to have them manually fix the problem (& they get real snotty about it sometimes). At one point, they actually told me "if this happens again, you're out of luck -we won't activate it again" This after I paid $80 for the program.........

I can confirm that its just as easy with IGO. I have it in my existing SD card along with pics, music, documents, files, etc. I can move the card from Touch Pro to Touch Pro 2, etc and iGO 8 runs perfectly.

iGO can do traffic info if you have TMC receiver and, apparently, it can somehow get it from MSN Direct as well...

Re: Post Your Favorite / Best / Most Used GPS Nav for TP2 ?

I installed tomtom navigator 7 since i'm familiar with the tom tom interface (i have a separate tomtom gps), BUT the tomtom 7 on pro 2 is VERY VERY VERY slow ....

I wonder if there is a way to enhance the speed of screen refreshing or whatever ?????
