Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
Please read this entire post before voting or making any comments, thank you.
Alright, as many of you know, there could be a big issue with stuck pixels on the Touch Pro2 display. As the name implies, these faulty pixels are stuck; so you will notice them on black backgrounds. We currently have a poll going on about this, but there is a possibility that we actually have two different issues. Before, it was recommended that we go into a dark room, turn on the camera app, and then check for stuck pixels. Recently, however, some people claim that abnormalities show up with the camera test, but not when you simply use a black image to test. So, to identify stuck pixels on the display, it’d probably be better to check using separate background and camera tests. In an effort to collect the best results as possible, we have a new poll with more detailed choices. This should give potential buyers an idea about the severity of the problem at hand. Please test your TP2 using the methods below. Test TP2 display under the following conditions: - Stuck pixels during regular use: This would be obvious. After using your device for a couple days, have you noticed any stuck pixels during regular use? - Stuck pixel background test: Download the attached file, which consists of an all black background that has been sized for WVGA screens. Load it up using HTC's image viewer. First check for stuck pixels on the display while in a regularly lit room. If you don’t notice any, go into a dark room and check again. If you're still not seeing stuck pixels, congratulations. Now please do the camera test. - Camera display test: Go into a dark room and turn on your TP2’s camera. Check for any abnormalities on the screen. After you’ve performed these tests, review the poll choices and place your vote accordingly. Please be honest. Also, if you’ve returned or attempted to return your TP2 due to pixel issues, please comment about your experience and mention which carrier. We hope that the poll results, with the help of user comments, will help inform users. |

I am on my third unit, first was replaced for keyboard issues, second for dead pixels. No problems confirming the stuck pixels, even in well lit Telus store. There were noticably more stuck or dead pixels while using camera. No complaints about return once the rep saw the problem. My new TP2 currently has 5 or 6 dead pixels in camera test only. I think I will be returning this one as well. Last year my wife got me a T-shirt that said "I See Dead Pixels" because of the 4 PSPs I returned...lol. I will wear it to the Telus store to do my next return.

I did all three tests and I didn't find any pixel problems here

Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
I chose the first option because my camera has stuck blue clusters. As in I take a picture move it to my computer and there are 2 stuck blue clusters on the picture permanently and every picture taken with the phone.
Else I would have chosen the 2nd option because I have two stuck green pixels in the center that you can see on the home screen. Finally isn't there already another poll that has been going much longer than this one. Should have stickyed that one. |
Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
I have a LOT of stuck pixels (15-20) and 2 dead pixels. Only one dead pixel is visible during normal use, and the rest of the stuck pixels are invisible unless in the camera screen or on a dark screen. I've been using it for the past couple of days since my replacement from Verizon still hasn't gotten here yet, and to be honest, I barely notice them in most applications. The only time they really popped out at me was the first time I used the camera application (they are there on other screens though) and that's one of the only few that still bothers me. Only one or two of them are really bright, the rest of them are only partial and I had to look carefully for them. Also, I don't know if it matters, but they're ALL green.
It's not a deal breaker for me, since this is a great phone, but I'm going to keep exchanging it for as long as Verizon will let me until I get at least a near-perfect one. |
Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
I have one stuck pixel in the top right corner of the display. I only see it on a black screen when really looking for it. It annoys me to know it is there but trying to be rational about it, is that really an issue? My previous TP2 had 10 stuck pixels and those too I couldn't see in normal use. My buddy got a Pre last week and he asked me to check it for pixel issues, it had 8 stuck pixels and one of them was flickering! If Sprint had these in stock in store I might be tempted to exchange it. But as miserable as exchanges are with Sprint via mail I think my single stuck pixel TP2 might be a keeper.

Noticed 2 very small, hardly visible dead/suck pixels on the bottom right of my screen during a camera test.

Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
I have purchased three TP2s for work after showing the partners mine. I finally got around to activating them today and one of them had a minor but visible stuck pixel (white on a black image). I have been running the youtube video posted on this site that flashes different colors to unstick them for the last ~30 mins and the pixel is fixed. I really didnt expect this and had already sent in a request to my corporate rep but it worked!
You can try the link here Only issue is that it is formatted for a regular screen so if your pixels are on the top or the bottom it wont help. If someone knows of a properly formatted video, please post it. Hope this helps. |

Yup 3 little stuck pixels, but I can hardly notice them. Not sure its even worth it to send back. I can see them on start up and in the camera can only see 1. I'll try the dark room later....

Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
I just tried the full screen tri-flash colors for about 2 hours and no luck. Still have the one stuck pixel. This is kind of bull $h!t . Time to order my second replacement...

Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
I just got my replacement phone from Verizon, and it STILL has stuck pixels. The replacement is slightly better because there are no dead pixels while I had 2 before, but it still has about 15 stuck green pixels.
I guess I'll try to get them unstuck, and if that doesn't work I think I'm going to wait for retail stores to carry them so I can inspect it before I leave. This is getting ridiculous... |
Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
I still really want to order this phone, but a 30% chance of getting a phone with stuck pixels is scary, especially since I'd be ordering it on eBay.
One thing is strange though... Has anyone noticed everyone is complaining about GREEN stuck pixels? Why is it only green? Very strange. |
Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
I just ordered my replacement, as the stuck pixels is very noticeable on mine. New one should be here today, so I am hopeful no more problems.

Alright guys, so i've got around 30 stuck pixels but no dead ones. However only 3 are BARELY noticable on the dark screen, the rest I had to REALLY REALLY(!!!) look for, it is really HARD to see them. As someone already pointed out, the stuck pixels were green color and some, on my phone, had a slight light green/red hue to them. SO, what I decided to do, it to take a microscope with 100x magnification, and take a look at what this stuck pixel is actually doing! I know you probably think that stuck pixel is a bad one, and does not work, BUT, its is FALSE for the 15+ stuck pixels that I inspected!!! The stuck pixels are NOT STUCK, and they actually DO work !! As you all know, a pixel is a combination of RGB tft transistors positioned really close together. When I looked under a microscope with a phone's screen showing black background (provided in this thread from a zip file) at the three brightest "stuck pixels", I noticed that only about the 1/8 of the red tft and 1/8 green tft emit more light while the rest of the pixel is emitting very low light (that's for the pixel with green/red hue to it. Pixel with green hue had only a tiny part of green tft malfuntion)! So for some reason, a manufacturing defect of some kind, a tiny fraction of the tft transistor (green or red and green) is getting more power even thought the rest of the tft transistor(s) is getting low power and lights up evenly. A good pixel had all of its RGB tft transistors light up low and evenly while displaying this black background. Once I closed the photo album, the "stuck" pixel lit up, and all three RGB tft transistors worked just like the rest on the good pixels on the screen, however I could still see a little bit of uneven lighting on the tiny portion of defective tft. So the only reason WHY you see dead pixels on the dark screen is because while most of the pixel is off, a tiny part of green or green and red tft is lit up more than the rest and you see it stand out. Under normal use, you will not be able to see a stuck pixel unless its really bad, which in my case never is! I also stopped by a TMobile store, and inspected the screen on TP2..sure enough, there were stuck pixels! I think it's just a common thing, so please don't be too freaked out! Remember, you screen has 384,000 pixels and having them all being perfect is nearly impossible. I guarantee you I will find at least several "stuck pixels" for all the users that said they didn't have any in this thread. So, there's my conclusion to the story!
Regards, Mikhail Edit, just attacked an illustration of what's happening with a stuck pixel while viewing a dark background. As you can see, most of the pixel is lit up evenly, but a tiny part of green tft or green and red tfts are lit up brighter. |

my friend and his wife just got TP2, no dead pixels, but 10+ tiny stuck pixels..looks like this is very common

Got my VZW TP2 today. No anomalies here.

Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
Got my Sprint TP2 today.
EDIT: After turning my backlight on full and re-performing this test, I did find several (about 15 I guess) stuck pixels on the screen. None of them are visible at all during normal use. Only when I have a black background and really look for them on the highest brightness setting. |
Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
31 pixel issues and 67 good pixels. hmmm................. more votes please.

Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
Just a note, these stuck pixels are not visible...like...ever, unless they are searched for in camera app or in dark pictures with highest brigthness enabled. 380k pixels on a 3.6" screen makes for some VERY small pixels. I have a stuck pixel on my laptop monitor which is a 15" monitor that only does 1280x900 and it's super visible, because the pixels are much larger on a monitor. Even more so on a huge 46" + LCD TV.
They really don't even bother me as much as I thought they would, but I have still contacted the seller on eBay to see if he will exchange. |
TP2 Is Driving Me Crazy
First phone: more than 10 stuck pixels (09/08/09)
Second phone: 3 very small stuck pixels passing, purple dot on every single picture I take (09/14/09) Third phone: 2 very small stuck pixels and a distinct dead pixel (black) near top middle of my screen (10/05/09) Should I play the Sprint Representative tag game agian... :( |
Re: TP2 Is Driving Me Crazy
maybe you are just looking for issues and as long as you do that you will always find one. I have had two TP2's and the first one i dropped and scratched it but it was perfectly fine, the second one was almost perfect but the vibrate seemed to be broke. I have not had any pixel issues. if you are having this much trouble, maybe the phone isn't for you
|
Re: TP2 Is Driving Me Crazy
I noticed my first dead pixel this morning when I was cleaning my screen. Honestly it doesn't bother me at all and you can only notice it when the screen is basically black. Hopefully it doesn't get any worse.

Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
Ok.. I have found a lot of dead pixels... should I contact HTC? I was wondering since alot of people have this maybe (hopefully) HTC would create a recall. But alot of people would have to submit a ticket probably. I had this phone for a week. I hate going to verizon and doing that proccess i feel like i have to put on some boxing gloves every time i go into that store.

Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
I just noticed two more dead pixels so now I am up to 3 dead pixels. Again though, it is so hard to notice I don't even know if they been there the whole time or if it just occured. It still doesn't bother me since I can't notice them with normal use.

Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
May 2nd phone was riddled with green pixels (like 10-15 of them). So I sent that phone back and kept my original while I wait for more stock.
The pixels are viewable on a dark wall paper and more visible while in camera mode (which is just a black screen with the display at the brightest settings). |
Re: Do you have pixel issues with your TP2 display? (READ post before voting)
So how much do you guys think it would take for HTC to do a recall?
