Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?
is there a program you can run, other then FieldTrial.exe, that will log your signal strength in -db?
As i see it this is the only way to "accurately" compare the signal strengths from one soft reset to another to ensure its not just doing a placebo effect. As for myself, i have noticed that i see the 1X icon a lot more on the TP2 then i got using the TP and the 6800 in the same locations. But i have not noticed any dropped calls, poor audio quality, or dropped/slow data connections. I did notice under the Phone->Settings there is an option to change from Global to CDMA Only and GSM Only. Have you guys played with this setting at all? |

Yes I tried just using the CDMA only setting, had no effect. |

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?
It happened again this morning for over an hour. This time a *228 did not fix it. After several soft resets, I decided to do a full backup, and then do a hard reset to see if that would fix it; however, it started working again after the backup/soft reset. I am very close to a tower, and normally get a solid 3 bars (3G) from this location. This is getting frustrating. Once I had data working on my Sprint TP1 on VZW, I never had this problem! Of course getting data working was the problem...HAHA!!!

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?
It just happened again. Tried two soft resets, but that did not help. Then I turned it OFF. Waited for about 2 minutes, and turned it back on. 3G came back to life; however, I really have no idea if that did anything.
Edit: Forgot to mention I am in the same location I have been in all day (3 Bars/3G). Last edited by RobsOnLine; 09-18-2009 at 03:36 PM. Reason: Added Content |

Re: Are you having trouble staying in 3G (getting stuck in 1X), VZW TP2 folks?
This is definitely NOT a signal issue or lack of 3G coverage. Let me give an example. I drove from Seattle to Portland and had 3G coverage the entire way there and the following day. I then boarded a flight from Portland to Seattle and when I landed in Seattle, I powered up my phone and all I could get was a 1X signal. I waited almost an hour for it to pick up 3G and when it didn't I finally did a *228 option 1 to reprogram. When the programming was complete, the phone rebooted and I had a solid 3G connection. When I woke up the next morning my phone was stuck back on a 1X connection. Again I did a *228 and got it back. A few hours later I drove across town, and it reverted back to 1X. I had my laptop with a Verizon aircard with me and it had a solid 3G signal. About an hour later I reprogrammed again and got it back. The image below (IP address edited), is what you should see in field trial if everything is good. It will say 1=Authenticated and you will have an IP address. The HDR session state should be 4=Open State. If these fields say anything else, you are failing to establish an EVDO session.
I did do a hard reset last night and have been in 3G ever since. I'll report back later.

It is true that voice and text messages only use 1X, so that is normal when that happens. Constantly staying in 1X when you're in a 3G area, surfing the web, etc... is NOT normal. |
