stopping txt message notifications

I really got spoiled with my touch pro 1 & 6.5 where i was able to dismiss the txt msg & have the ringtone stop playing is there anyway with this tp2 i can stop that ringtone 4 txt msgs b/c if not i think i might return this phone & keep my orig tp b/c between that & the whole mem leak thing its starting to bug me a little especially 4 what i paid 4 the phone!!!

So if anyone has any knowledge of how to get around this which is my biggest gripe please point me in the right direction!

Go to settings, Advanced Settings. You'll find the old school Sounds and Notifications panel where you can turn this off.

OH! Right. You mean the "Mute Ring" feature? I didn't realize it wasn't there!

You have a ringtone set as the sound for text messages? If you don't want to play the sound clip as long, find the file that is the sound clip, open it in an audio editing program on your desktop (such as audacity), or on your device if you can find an app for it, and just cut the length of the audio file down and save it as a new one, then set that as the sound.

Re: stopping txt message notifications

After re-reading it, I thought he was talking about two different things. Now after reading your responses, I'm starting to think I'm totally wrong.

Re: stopping txt message notifications

I don't have a .wav for a txt message notification, so I can't test this . . .

Can you mute it like you can mute the incoming call wav by turning it face down?
