Essential WinMo apps?
So my TP2 is quite the virgin right now, I'm afraid... pretty much bone-stock. What apps would you guys say are essential? I tried to get Google Maps, but it said my phone wasn't compatible.

What is essential for one is not for another. My suggestion is to take a moment and consider what you wish to accomplish with the device and what you think is important. And yes, Google Maps is available. A bit of reading here and there will answer your question(s).

Start w/ SPB Mobile Shell 3.0
Add Skyfire Wunder Radio KMS8 Pandora Bing Google Maps ACT Config Tool. --- All currently on my touch pro 2 + a few tweaks here and there. whatever feels good to you.

basically anything that runs on WM will run on TP2...
check the software forum... also check the TP1 room, as most everything from there works here as well
