SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
I noticed the T-Mobile back case has a hole for the stylus to do a soft reset, but the Sprint does not ??WTF?
Now mine does  http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...1/CIMG0750.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...1/CIMG0751.jpg |

Lmao!

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
This I would love to see, but I don't think I would have the guts to do it. I will find some way to just destroy my battery cover trying to get the holes to line up right.

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
Very simple mod. I've done it to mine. I've read it somewhere else though. It's just drilling a hole!!! Works like a charm. A regular drill will work fine to, as long as you can hold it steady.

Very funny! Personally, I just push the end key to shut the device down and soft reset that way. It's rare I would pull the battery cover off to push the button.

I am really thinking about doing this right now but I just know I will find a way to f this up.

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
Here I did it using my Rotary Tool. Unfortunately the Verizon version also covers the reset button. I did it by measuring from the edge of the Vol - button & the inside edge of the cover. I still ended up a bit too high & too far left....I drilled by hand. Not too bad though.

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
I wonder what this does to your warranty? I guess if you have TEP it doesn't matter.

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
haha, great idea. Any other verizon users thinking about repainting the back of their tp2's? I think I'm gunna tape off the speakerphone and have my buddy sand down and spray the back black to match the rest of the phone. If I do I'll get pics!
|
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
It will not do anything to your warranty.. the 5th time I replaced my TP I forgot to put the original back over (mine was painted black) and they didn't mind.. I think the guy took the back cover for himself since he had a TP. lol
|
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
I'd buy one too. Seriously, you can just buy a bunch of battery covers, drill holes, and mark them up for $3-$5 each. It seems like it's easy for you to do it, and a lot of people don't want to mess up, which makes the premium worth it.

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
I did the modification. The distance from the volume key assy was fine, but I was too high. A bit of rounding out though did the trick.
|
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
If you want the distance front to back to be perfect just take a piece of black electric tape and line up with the center of the reset and carefully put your cover back on and mark it even with the tape. Then measure up from the edge to get the center going up. Too easy.

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
i dont understand, there is already a softreset option when you press and hold the power button lol, why drill a hole

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
LOL, nice! I was thinking of doing this the other day when I had to reset my phone. I have a Verizon phone and its the same thing, no hole for reset. This is the perfect fix! I'm not doing mine with a drill press though, just a handheld cordless.
|
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
I was going to do this - I even bought a spare back in case I messed up then I got the Rhodium Keyboard remapper by Tarkim and used it to program FN + Enter to reboot the device. No need for a hole now I reset from the keyboard.

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
great job, now if i only knew how to drill:(, for those that still dont get why we need the reset button, sometimes phone will freeze up so badly that nothing responds, not screen, not hardware buttons and not keyboard. The only way to reset in that case is either by taking out the battery or pressing the reset button. Has anyone attempted to get hole for microsd card?
|
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
Anyone think about slicing a slot for the microSD card in the battery cover?
|
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
You can also use masking tape to get a better drill result. This has been done to other phones as well like the Treo's. Good job on this one!
