I'm just askin. I use SPB and there is a soft reset option with it in the task manager. But when my phone is simply frozen/locked up, I have to resort to traditional soft resetting with the stylus. Also, is that the actual name of the program? I'm interested in it now. |
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
its called mysoftreset
|
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
wow some people amaze me, noone knows how to read anymore?
Next time someone has the urge to post a software solution to this - please dont, no software will work(yes that includes yours) and no hardware buttons/keyboard will respond when phone is completely frozen, if you never had this happen to you - you havent been here long enough! |
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
popping the case off and popping the battery is faster but if one wants to drill their case never said they couldn't.

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
Did the hole in mine awhile back and now I am waiting on my Seidio case to come in to drill a hole in that. I used a Mill (with CNC) to drillout the hole. Using tape is a very good idea.
Very good job. |
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
I could use this definitely....I'm reflashing my phone like a mad man. I !!!hate!!! taking that battery cover off to hit the reset button after flashing from my SD card.

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
I just did this little mod this morning & I wish I'd have done it sooner. This will save me money on cases. I always use snap cases to protect my phone & it is a huge PITA to get them off whenever I have a lockup. I have to use a credit card to loosen the back, & after so many removals the little tabs break off & I have to buy a new one. So I used a Dremel & freehanded 2 holes, 1 through the battery cover & one through the snap case, And it turned out great! I was kind of afraid it'd look bad but it's barely noticeable. Thanks for the idea, OP.

Bullets? Radioactive fallout? Sheesh... That's not a TP2 That's a Tank. lol. Great work with the hole drillin and the lining up of the holes. p. |
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
I'm protecting it from MYSELF lol... Look up 'butterfingers' in the dictionary & you'll see my picture. I have probably dropped it no less than 10 times in the past month. The case does make it a bit bigger, which I actually like. One of my biggest gripes with the TP1 was the size, they keep making these damn things smaller & I hate that. Give me a tank over a phone I have to squint at any day :)

When I had the TP from Sprint... I used a similar case... (Bodyglove) I liked it... but It just was way too big for my pant's pockets. I guess if I had a purse or one of those European man bags... lol. I know... I'll singlehandedly bring back the fannypack. lol. I like the stars on your case though. p. |
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
Man bags are awesome! I love it when guys carry man-purses.
I love the snap cases cause they protect the device while allowing full use of it. I just got this case off ebay. This one is identical to the very first case I bought for my old mogul, so there's some sentimentality there :) |

Would you think less of me. LOL.... I should put my original tp case ups for grabs... I paid like 20 buks for it and have no use for it. p |
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
As often as I have been flashing ROMs lately, I think I am going to have to do this to my case this weekend. Now, wasn't the rule "Cut twice, measure once?"

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
Here;'s how to match up the hole perfectly.
Take off back case Plase masking tape on phone so that it covers the reset button and the long edge matches up with the edge of the case where the back cover meets the rest of the phone, and where the top of the the tape goes to the bottom of the vol buttons. Poke a hole/use a sharpie where the reset button is. Pull off tape carefully Put back cover back on. Take the tape and put it back on the phone, matching the edge to where the back cover meets the phone and the end of the tape is right at the bottom of the vol buttons. Basically, exactly where the tape was when the cover was off. You now a have a perfect guide to drill right on top of the reset button. Or yo ucould just go to a T-Mobile store and swipe a back cover :) |

This is awesome! Thank you so much for diving into this "experimental" project. Turned out AWESOME! Now I need to find someone with some skill doing this stuff!

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
wow i did this as well, and just seen this, I love when the phone locks up not having to take everything apart
|
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
I too did this to my phone, I did it because I installed a ROM that kept locking up my phone and the only way to get it functioning again was to reset it. I got tired of taking the cover off every time so I drilled a whole in it too except I used a drill bit with my hand and not a electric drill...
Pretty handy http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=96076 |
Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
But you could just install a software mod that soft resets the phone.
 KIDDING! Nice work on the hole, I think I will be doing that myself when I get home from the road. I hate having to take off the damn back cover when I get a hard freeze. |

Re: SPRINT TP2 + Drill Press + 1/16 Drill Bit = Soft Reset No Case Removal
To have more control I didn't use a drill but instead a micro screw driver set. After determining the spot I used the 1/16 and turned it back and forth eventually making a hole all the way through. I used the 3/32 just to clean up the edge of the hole a bit. Not necessary though.
