Workaround for Google's non-support of new devices using ActiveSync?

My TP2 died a couple of weeks ago; I got a replacement from ebay, and apparently the former owner didn't use ActiveSync with Google? I unsuccessfully tried to sync and eventually found out that Google dropped support for new devices. Is there a workaround that will allow me to sync Gmail with my device? I tried backing up the email from the old device & restoring it on the new, but no dice.

Re: Workaround for Google's non-support of new devices using ActiveSync?

I think I'll just go back to one of my older TP2s. I have two that I just tested for ActiveSync capability. I didn't want to pay for the service, so that looks like my only option. I'll just have to keep spare parts around. Question...how much of a phone can I change out without it being rejected as a "new" GoogleSync device?
