Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
Okay First let me say that I never hated the TP2 I think its a wonderful machine.
Bing is amazing with turn by turn direction, Themeing is awesome and I can have a different phone every week, with IOS, Windows7, Android, Sense, Mobile shell. I can tether very easily. I think its everything I need in a phone. But the new shiny phones are tempting. I was a complete noob (and still am to a degree)when I first started and I always heard talk about how Windows OS sucks and how its a hog and drags and everything else and how this phone is sooo outdated. But to be honest I Love my phone. Running sharkies rom and clearing out the start menu and a few other htc enhancements this phone hasn't froze ONCE in over a week. Its VERY VERY STABLE. But the oppurtunity of getting a Newer phone is VERY TEMPTING. I may be able to TOL of a sero premium account. for 60$ plan. Right now I have 1000 mins unlimited data, text picture mail. for only 30$ a month... Even sero can't beat that. Not only that Im not committed to a contract I can leave anytime but with this sero Im locked in for another 2 years. Ive been free since 2009. So Should I make the jump and pay twice as much for a new plan just for a new phone? Now to add to the dilemma What type of phone should I get for sprint? 1. htc evo 2. HTC ARRIVE 3. Epic 4g or wait for the 4. htc evo 3d 5 Galaxy s II Or some other phone that is not on the list |

I'm in that boat, my tp2 is on its last leg... |

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
No, you should wait. I'm keeping my TP2 going for one reason and one reason only - a huge wave of new phones with dual-core processors will dominate this year. There's going to be such a huge leap in power and performance with the next gen phones that I just can't commit to the phones that are available today. As of a few weeks ago there weren't any dual-core phones with a QWERTY keyboard, so I'm just being patient and waiting for the killer device to arrive. For example, the HTC Scorpion is supposed to have a 1.5 GHz dual core CPU. The HTC EVO 3D has a 1.3 GHz dual core cpu, shows movies in 3D like the Nintendo 3DS, and even has dual cameras to capture your own videos and photos in 3D. I'm just going to wait a few months and let the dust settle a bit and see who comes out out with the best device. Just too much new stuff on the horizon at the moment (and to let the prices drop a bit too).

...that's another thing stopping me, plus with slingbox my tp2 is a portable cable box. |
Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
Iam not getting a new device until they put something on the market thats a real upgrade. Right now companies are adding small upgrades then saying how advanced thier phones are. Trust me I know alot of people with different devices and there isnt too much differnce between them. Actually on android there are some phones that are a step back. Windows Phone7 is an ok phone , but not a superior must have.
As a programmer I dont let fancy commercials or hype get to me. I know whats is real and whats not. Touchpro2 is an excellent device that is has some underpowered processors and lack of multi-touch. Besides the slow processors and lack of multi-touch , you can do almost anything you want in newer devices on this device. I very, very strongly suggest you stick to your device and dont pay attention to the hype of newer phones. Around late summertime there will be launches of new phones that will be closer to a computer in quality. So just wait and you be very happy you did. |

Also just in case you missed anything on your device , check out my website. It might have something your looking for there.

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
Well if you plan on swapping now I would suggest Epic 4g ;)...here is why:
Arrive - no theming..its a locked down platform Evo 4G - probably has the best dev community out of the 3 but the GPU is horrible and will be completely blown out of the water by the new hardware accelerated apps. Epic 4G - Has the best CPU out of the 3 and the best GPU, the GPU is actually on par with an Evo 3d and other dual core phones. It also has a kb, if you dont want a keyboard there is the Nexus S 4G which is a pure google phone... -- if your going to wait then its a hard call...so far Evo3d is the only one Confirmed..spec wise SGS 2 is better but who knows when sprint will get it..and I hear by end of the year Nvidia is promising Quad-Core phones :/ |
Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
IF you do get rid of you TP2, let me know.. I'll throw you an offer for it. As to anyone else that is doing the same. ^^

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
Yeah, or we could pass it along to Sharkie405 with some group support!
|
Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
bleh go for the arrive the Android phones with all these dual core processors don't really have hardware acceleration to take advantage of it. wp7 has hardware acceleration built in and IE9 and some upcoming apps will take more advantage of it as well. who cares of its locked down? the purpose of customization was to tweak the device to work reliably this was a necessity in the tp2 wm6.5 days and even in some Android phones I'm hearing about but it isn't a necessity on wp7 which provides an excellent out of the box experience. since I got my arrive I have never had to soft reset it or anything like that. and with Zune I have access to millions of songs that I can stream without having to download them sure Android has this as well but the apps aren't as good, everything just works .or if u don't want the arrive u can wait and get the mazaa which is a wp7 world phone that is coming to sprint later this year.

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
dual core is all hype and gimmicks same with 4G. this is no different than the console wars of the 90s "oh my system is better because its 32 bit urs is only 16"

4g while is not real 4g and just faster 3g..its still faster... and dual cores allow for better multi-tasking...once they are fully implemented...so atm it may be a gimmick..but by end of the year ice cream will be out and those phones will be able to make use of both cores. |
Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
thanks on all counts, i didnt know all that

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
So far, from what I've seen and read, the Arrive, while superior from a hardware standpoint, is otherwise a step down from the TP2. Until hackers can "unlock" it, such as customization and tethering can be accomplished, I'd stick with the TP2. If you must have a new phone, many praise the Android phones as having more in common with WM 6.5 than W7 phones as far as business users are concerned. WP 7 appears to "dumbed down" to allow M$ to compete with Apple for the consumer market.

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
Excellent view points! Plus developers are still supporting windows mobile. There is a free Angry Birds Adventure Platform game , its simple and fun like iphone games out for our devices. Keep your touchpro2 until a real upgrade comes out.

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
Gee, as a person whose used windows mobile since the days of the Hitachi G, I thought I had a good understanding of the "basics." And as one who always likes to pick up the latest technology, I thought I had spent several times in various Sprint stores experimenting with the Arrive. It's very nice of you Eric to disabuse me of my illusions. I must have imagined my disappointment that the Arrive was less functional than the TP2 in many respects.
Now, if I could only learn to post in your elegant and correct style. Sigh. |

I know you like change see alot of you at Timberwolf and Sharkie.
I went from TP2 to galaxy, miss the TP2, however the processors on newer phones are lightning fast. I'd check the forums and see who is making the android roms and stick with that crowd, more support the more comfortable you will be. No one can tell you which is the best phone, it's all about what fits you best, hell, I can remember having a MA Bell rotary phone!!!! Best of luck |

but anyone else please chime in. I amin same position to be ready to move on, but I admit, don't like change as now I have to relearn all stuff. I was wanting the "HTC Arrive" as it look most like my TP2, so I started looking into various comments to a few reviews. but I read and found 17 various most posted issues, both trivial and major ones. So wondering if anyone knows when/if some can be resolved, or if they exist at all. Or I may be moving onto Evo3D in Nov. Here they are(posted from various threads): 1--No Front Facing Camera, 2--No International GSM Support 3--No custom ringtones 4--Limited app library 5--Text messages just stop at 160 characters 6--No multi-tasking 7--No Sprint Live Football 8--Netflix video needlessly pixelated even when on wifi 9--No 4G,yet still have to pay 10 more 10--No FaceTime 11-Absence of sync with Outlook, no Mobile Device Centersync! 12-You can't use it as a drive when connected to a PC 13-There are a few places where the display doesn't flip to landscape mode 14-Keyboard can be difficult to slide out sometimes 15-Lack of microSD slot 16-Zune required for media Sync. 17-Too much swipping is involved if u have lots of apps, due to the Vertical arrangement. I am not sure 100% even if these problems exist as I don't have an Arrive, So don't take this post wrong as if i am knocking it, I would just like some clarification from those that know. I'm shure we could take any device and make a similar list. |

Expect 5 years from now that the market will stabilize and almost impossible if not impossible for new OS to enter... In M$ case though they changed their thing completely as winmo and WP7 have almost nothing a like...so that warrants more displeasure... |

man o man! i am so glad i ran across this thread as i am in the same boat! im really ready for a new phone but ive had wm since the apache 6700 and ive had every cdma wm phone with a keyboard since then! i am really thinking of moving to android but dont know whether i should: 1 take the offer sprint is giving me for the epic... $164.xx with tax and all and they put a $50 credit on my bill. 2 wait until the evo 3d or better phones come out 3 but the epic, and sell it when the evo 3d or better phone comes out. i am really leaning towards 3 but im not sure if i will keep becoming eligble for these magic upgrades the next billing cycle after i use my upgrade, like in the past.. 8-[ |

Ive seen people apply the credit via "loyalty credit" and I've seen Epic go in 3rd party places for $100..not atm though..other then that radioshack offer where you bring in any old phone for credit... |
