Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
I bit the bullet today and bought a used HTC Hero for $50 to keep me entertained until the Evo 3D comes out. I've been very supportive of WM and the TP2 over all these years and it has definitely taken leaps and bounds since I got it stock, but the fact of the matter is the hardware and OS are just way too outdated. Overclocking my TP2 kept it fresh for me for an extra 6 months but now the wow factor is way past due. Lack of apps/development has forced me to Android. Thanks for the memories TP2/WM!

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
Okay here is my game plan.
Goals: 1. I want to keep my old account alive its a killer 2. Open up a sero plan. and enjoy a new phone I know I said Ill wait but I lied :P Problem: I spoke to sprint rep and they told me that I cannot have two seperate contracts with two seperate phone numbers under one social security number. so here is my solution. 1. I first have to transfer my fathers number to my account. (his account sucks) 2. Do a transfer of liability so he is the owner of the account. 3. Open up a everything plus referral program 4. Find someone with a sero plan and TOL 5. Enjoy my new badass plan and phone! \\:D/ Now its just time to execute.8-[ [-o< |
Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
just dish out the extra 10 for a blackberry or android.
funniest part of your post: "this phone hasn't froze ONCE in over a week. Its VERY VERY STABLE." I havent had to restart my android phone for months. I've never had to restart my iphone, other than when I jailbroke it. you have very low standards if you think the TP2 is reliable. Truthfully, if there was a dumb phone that could tether and sync outlook contacts, I'de get that over the TP2 any day. |

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
I'm kinda in the same boat as you but I think I'm gonna get the evo 4g instead. I figure the evo is a huge upgrade from the tp2 already so I'll have a new phone to satisfy me for a bit and then next year I'll get the evo 3d. Plus once the 3d comes out I'm hoping to pick up a used evo 4g for no more than 200 and sell the 3d (upgrade) i get for ~400. Free evo 4g + $200 sounds good to me

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
I'm believing at this point that I'll be driving my TP2 till the wheels fall off. Currently the EPST says I have 787 Hrs on the life timer. The other 2 TP2's I had that I broke had around 300 or so. This phone has been the greatest phone I've ever used.
There really isn't any phones on the market (or coming) that can take the place of it. I'm waiting for a Windows Phone 7 world phone with a keyboard, dual core processor and removable memory card slot that's easilly removable.:headbang: |

Dude, before you leave the TP2, you need to try the new ROMs by WCX. I have used sharkey's and did like them, but these are unreal. It's worth a shot, if you're already familliar with flashing:

I too still love my TP2. But I am looking. Would love to have 4g, video conferencing, and apps. But a hard keyboard is a must. I am starting to wonder though if anyone will produce a hard keyboard in the future????

I think I'm going to finally bite the bullet and give in to Sprint's crap about smartphones and legacy plans. I'll probably be getting the Nexus S in a couple weeks or whenever it launches.

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
Yes, not likely to switch too soon given the lack of phones with ideal characteristics... and my cheap plan. My short list of needs is
1. quad-band 2. dual ghz processor 3. good battery life 4. Android 2.3 |

I'm going to try to fight temptation as long as possible and hopefully Sprint will get a really nice WP7 device.... I thought I was ready for Android, but I was just playing with the Evo, I'm not ready yet lol.

i can't wait for that evo 3d, gunna be amazing :)

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
I went from the TP2 to an HTC Arrive and I could not be happier.
I imagine that going from a keyboard rockin' TP2 to an all touch screen HTC EVO 3D would be tough. I also imagine the 3D is going to be gimmicky and suck down battery life...but I admit, I hate 3D with a passion. So you should probably just ignore my 3D hate. I really just don't see 3D as having any place on a phone. |

That said I don't see a reason why it would use up more energy... Quote:
It doesn't have that much power management problems...that said Gingerbread improves power management I hear. As for 4G..its not a gimmick...its just faster 3G..the problem right now with 4G is this: 1) Original EVO had no 4G idle, Epic and on do so that has been addressed. 2) You are effectively running 2 radio chips at once..while 3G is turned off when using 4G, the 1X and 4G are running both at same time..thus more energy drain. 3) 4G is not very strong in many places thus drains more energy when connecting/disconnecting and trying to pick up weak signals. But I want to clarify, this is for Sprints and Verizon's implementation...on T-Mobile and AT&T which use HSPA+ is backwards compatible...as its effectively 3.5G..and in no way energy drainer or a gimmick. Personally I use Sprint 4G when I gotta download those 100mb files or get to a place fast...I notice the web loads instantly almost when on 4G...so whilee it may not be something that I keep on all the time..its VERY useful when needed. |
Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
It looks like its harder to get a sero plan then I thought.
All that I can ever find is the 500 min plan w/out the 3 free numbers! I mean common did anyone ever buy the 1250 plan! Im struggling looking for these two plans. Mainly the 1250 plan. If anyone can Help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks to anyone willing to help! |

If you havent already got a phone i think you should go with the Epic since imo its awesome but lacks updates from Samsung/Sprint but the Developers do a great job or You should wait for the Galaxy S2 which hopefully Sprint will get one thats if you can wait till then |
Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
I cant vote. You didnt put Evo 3D on there.
Edit - I didnt look thru the screen. Its there. Looks like most people are jumping off the Microsoft plateform, just like me. It is not a good sign. |

Agree, a lot of people here are going elsewhere, especially since most users here love to mod or have special needs. Working in a retail environment, I see more and more regular users with WP7s, talk to them about it and they are loving it which is a good sign(compared to WinMo users I talked to who always have some discontent-sound familiar?). Like everything there are always pros and cons. Hopefully we will reach the balance point where the average user picks it up and loves it yet offers everything we as users here love too. |

Re: Dont want to give up my TP2, But is it time?
WP7 sucks, said it before it came out, will say it again, the whole UI makes me want to puke... that or throw "panels" at people... WM6.1 and WM6.5 RIP you golden era child, so many quirks that made you suck but you STILL win over WP7!
That all being said, I am looking to jump off my TP2 as well (sprint as well), looking into an HD2 or maybe an HTC Evo Shift 4G or Evo 3D (on Boost, Sprints cheaper bastard child network) |
Wirelessly posted (WP7 Beta Tester: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows Phone OS 7.0; Trident/3.1; IEMobile/7.0; HTC; HD7))
...let me guess...you thumbed thru one or read an article, but never really used one, correct? |
