Re: Old Touch Pro 2 Uses
I'm in the same shape as the OP. I still have a warm place in my heart for my tp2. I actually got my wife an iphone and I activated her Blackberry tour to use for a while just to see. As it turns out...the blackberry does a really good job of handling my work email, texts, and facebook. Not to mention actually running I heart radio, a good free weight tracker with internet database of calorie information. And the battery life is so nice.
If the people working on android had a complete android build I'd be running that just due to the availability of new app development. I think both my tour and my tp2 are quadband. The tour does not have wifi. I will not be giving my tp2 away as its so awesome. But as far as using it as an everyday phone, it was getting a bit frustrating due to battery life, and slowness as the op suggested. It has been retired to use as a garmin gps and bluetooth streaming media as a permanent fixture in my car. I like it.

hmmm..
OP, change the ROM if you think NRG is slow, nothing is stopping you.. dont need to be activated to switch ROMS - that might help you a bit.. also theres "almost" nothing your unactivated phone cant do if it has wifi available to it.. except maybe make calls... your TP2 can also run Android, WIN95/98/ Ubuntu and Rhobuntu.... if you ask me the best way to "remote" your PC is by installing Android on that TP2 and using PhoneMyPC app.. love this app... so you do have options

Re: Old Touch Pro 2 Uses
Android would be sick on my TP2. I know you can put it on your SD card and launch it once windows mobile boots up, but can it be installed as the main ROM?

Re: Old Touch Pro 2 Uses
Running it as the main room isn't ready for regular users like you and I quite yet. head into the TP2 Android Forum..it's under NAND Booting or testing. Android is sick.
OP - If you were feeling generous you could donate it to an Android dev But the other ideas here rock.

Re: Old Touch Pro 2 Uses
You could install a bunch of games and give it to your kid (if you have one) to keep them occupied in the car. With no active service you wouldn't need to worry about your kid accesing the internet, accidentally dial, etc. My wife has an Epic and is always giving it to our daughter to play games. Amazing what sort of apps she downloads without knowing it. Of course, she is 4...
