*PIC* Mystery passcode screen as my phone boots.... ANYBODY?
1 Attachment(s)
Ok so yesturday, I was flashing my phone and got stuck in bootloader. It gave me an error but I couldn't read it b/c half of it was covered by the Olinex info. I ended up reflashing SSPL on it to repair it. So, this morning while i was getting ready for school I noticed that the phone wasn't on like I had left it last night. I booted it and got this unusual passcode screen during startup. This isn't the typical windows passcode screen to unlock the phone. This one is different. It only takes up about 1/2 - 2/3 the screen. Its black, and has a green enter button. WTH is it? I'm at school right now, but when I get home later, I will take a picture of it and upload it so you can see what I'm talking about. I don't want to mess with it until I know what it is. Someone PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Have you tried a hard reset? Maybe run Task29 and then reflash your rom. |
Re: Unusual passcode screen as my phone boots
Humm... sounds like something went south during your upgrade! =[ Not much you can do from school except try a hard reset.

Re: Unusual passcode screen as my phone boots
Ok, I'm home from school now. However, when I looked at the phone it was off. That's WEIRD b/c I left it on, at that screen, sync'd to my pc. I attempted to boot it again, several times, and it acted as if the battery was dead. It wouldn't go past the initial boot splash. Now that it has charged with the power off for a few mins. it boots up like normal. BUT that passcode screen didn't appear again.

Since it's not appearing anymore, I'm going to see if I can simulate whatever I did last night b/c I really wanna know about that screen. I've tinkered with PPC's for a few years now, and have owned a TP2 for the last year and NOT ONCE have I ever seen anything like this. I'm not worried about brick'n it b/c its covered by insurance, ANND I can always JTAG it to unbrick it. |
Re: Unusual passcode screen as my phone boots
Update on this mysterious passcode screen:
I've tried to simulate the same processes and flashes that I was initially doing the other night and have yet to see this MYSTERIOUS passcode screen. One thing that I forgot to mention is that I did attempt to put in a passcode only once when I first saw it. The passcode that I put in was 0000, but it didn't seem to accept it. What is ironic is that, while I was looking over various info using CDMA Workshop, QPST, and QXDM, I noticed that the LOCK CODE is 0000. Could it be that somehow, I acidently stumbled across a SECURITY LOCK screen? I'm not sure yet, but I'm gonna figure this out. Surely, SOMEBODY has seen this passcode screen. |
Re: Unusual passcode screen as my phone boots
Humm.. if we cannot recreate it, it will be difficult to diagnose!! :'(

I would have worked on it last night but I ended up spending the night at the hospital with a friend. Quote:

I'll update again after I get a chance to work on it. |
Re: Unusual passcode screen as my phone boots
My guess is that it has something to do with olinex due to the incomplete flash, that got bypassed after it was off for awhile. iow, the source of it was Olinex, but you'd never see it again unless you present Olinex with a partially flashed rom.

Re: Mystery passcode screen as my phone boots.... ANYBODY?
i think i once saw the same thing your refering to, op. see my thread from like a year ago. no one could help.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-touch-...opping-up.html i thought it was some sort of dialer screen, but now that i think about it, it could have been a pass code screen. it looked about the size of the screen where you would enter 1234 for a hard reset. |

Re: Mystery passcode screen as my phone boots.... ANYBODY?
OK!!! I booted up the phone again and it reappeared!!!! Theres a message that says "your phone is locked" and this passcode screen appears. HOWEVER, this one that I just saw didnt look exactly the same as the last one, BUT that may be b/c I have a different rom on here now. Either way, that has shown as a trend. Now that I've recreated the problem, I'm doing again with it hooked to this computer so that I can take a pic of it with MyMobiler.

Re: Mystery passcode screen as my phone boots.... ANYBODY?
I don't think it's a problem with Olinex or any bootloader for that matter. Instead, I think that by allowing it to die completely through bootloader instead of regular use, it throw some sort of flag which triggers this passcode screen to pop up on boot the next time it does. Tinkerbell, I'll definitely try to take a pic of it in the am. I'm gonna let it die out again to see if it will trigger that passcode screen.

from the description so far, I don't think it's bootloader related. but curious to see the photo of it

The picture the OP uloaded .. ive seen that before on my phone . That specific screen , in my case , was due to an extremely dead battery . I honestly was in panic as the OP is and all i did was kept it off and charged it for a bit and it came on like normal .. i dont know and am not saying they are related i just figured id offer my two sense .. which isnt much xP

looking at attached pic - when I see that, I go to Settings/Connections/Comm Manager and turn on phone. or make sure you're not in airport mode (same screen). |
Re: *PIC* Mystery passcode screen as my phone boots.... ANYBODY?
That looks like default WM6.5 dialer (no phone canvas) ?
|
Re: *PIC* Mystery passcode screen as my phone boots.... ANYBODY?
heh, you just press Cancel to make that screen go away. it doesn't ask for any password or anything... :)
it's just that you turned the radio part off before you rebooted the phone (or it just failed to turn on for some reason) |

Re: *PIC* Mystery passcode screen as my phone boots.... ANYBODY?
Hey, I apologize for the delay of a response. Unfortunately, I have been really busy with school lately. I appreciate all of your feedback. I do think that an EXTREMELY dead battery is the cause. However, I still don't understand the fact that as I had mentioned previously, that at one point I entered "0000" at this prompt and while analyzing with other tools such as CDMA Workshop, RevSkills, QPST, and QXDM, that I had noticed the security code too was "0000." Is this merely a coincidence or could I have accidently changed it by initially entering that code?

Re: *PIC* Mystery passcode screen as my phone boots.... ANYBODY?
I saw this. 2 days ago. On my friend's handheld motorola scanner.
It's a Windows Mobile device, has a SIM card, bluetooth, GPS, everything. But his company removed the SIM and put the phone in airplane mode by default because there is no cell service attached to the device. It turns out I can make that weird password screen pop up if his phone is in airplane mode and I go to Start > Settings > Phone. It asks if I'd like to turn on the phone, and when I say yes, I get that password screen. The only difference is at the top, it says something about the SIM. Other than that, the keypad is identical. Since we don't know the password and don't have a SIM, if I exit that screen the phone stays off. Do you have your SIM card in your phone? |

Re: *PIC* Mystery passcode screen as my phone boots.... ANYBODY?
It's just the windows mobile default dialer. All you gotta do is charge the phone and then turn the phone on in the comm manager.
I see this all the time when my phone doesn't have enough charge and doesn't have enough juice to even turn on and connect to the network. |
