Whistle - Free VOIP # and Calling - SIP Accessible

Thought I'd post up this killer free VOIP service. Differs from gmail calling in that you get your own phone # and can receive (inbound) calls <free as well>. Differs from Skype/Gizmo in that outbound calls are free, dial direct.

This is legit. I've been using it for a couple days and the voice quality has been great. The service is supposedly ad supported, but I have yet to hear an ad. They do tell you about their international pay service for about 10 seconds at the start of each call. Otherwise it's been completely ad free.

Also, I was able to get it working with SJPhone (trying fring as we speak). You can dial out directly from the application.
*Set your proxies to proxy.whistlephone.com
*User name to you whistle #
*Password to your whistle password

Thanks for sharing. We've all got our priorities, mine is domestic calling to landlines so this is valuable to me.

Same as Google Voice. You can never have too many free services right? For international I use Onesuite VoIP, its not free but its dirt cheap.

sounds intresting.. just dont like the sounds of "ads".. I use google voice + sipgate on a soft phone on my TP2. on my PC i can dial straight out of gmail now..

what sipgate etc are you using? i've been poking around for a solution and can't find anything to make this work over wifi...

i found an ancient version of sjphone. i can't figure out how to configure this to work with whistle... i tried in fring and it wouldn't place a call.

well so far u only got 1 thanks for it. most agree that this would be more useful if it supported international callin and textin.

well that "Most" doesnt include Me.. I could care less about International Calling and Texting...

Thanks OP, looks promising.. however I already have 5phones and a Google Voice number, i dont know that I personally need another # to be contacted through lol... but i see many others liking this just fine..
