without it, (when I'm over by the window), it finds 6 or 8 sats within about 5 seconds. (Boston). It gives me a location that is about 100meters away.

If you have the stock rom you should already have quickgps.
You could try bing. I like it better anyway because it has spoken directions.

Bing
I don't believe that Bing uses the built-in GPS, does it? (I fired it up and it gives me a map that I can't zoom in or out on, or move about. and I see no place for gps.)

If you download and install the bing app when you start it up it should find your location. If not click on Maps or Directions and have it find your location. It definitely uses the gps chip.

Bing
i was going to say the same. quickgps comes preinstalled on 6.5 and i think bing is way better than google maps. i dont know exactly how accurate it is, but i can say its damn accurate!

Re: location app that's closer than google maps?

Okay.

Thanks to both of you for the info of the inclusion of quickgps in 6.5 stock. Thanks given.

Installed Bing app and it did locate me, but only when I stick it out the window, and, again, about 20meter accuracy but that's because of the building.

If I'm inside, I'd have to use google maps as it will locate me without gps sight.

I think gmaps will use both cell tower and gps if the gps signal is low and Bing relies soly on gps signal. That would explain the two connecting differently. +1 to bing being better than gmaps for gps
