Thanks, but that's the same as the 2.1HTC TM that I had tried - It has the "old" configuration look and checkboxes, but the checkboxes don't do anything - programs remain active in background.

I'm currently using this TM on a stock Sprint 6.5 rom and it works perfect, try it and see if it works for you.

After trying about 5 different programs, this one - though it looks the same - WORKS!!! It is the "old style" TM found in my 6.1 Mogul.

Install cab.
Power off, and back on.
Test.

The icon is in
Settings ,
(menu > all settings if you are running Sense 2.5) ,
System
called "task manager"

It does not see Active Sync, and itself, as the MS one does. which of course is just fine!

To link to it with something like LOFFACTORY "Easy Today Launcher" , it is in /Windows/ , called
TaskManagerApp and has an icon that looks like "two pages with 3 checkmarks on the first page".

Thanks, ever since I upgraded (from my stock 6.5 to the newest 6.5 from HTC) I've been annoyed that the task manager has been missing.

I have no idea why they would have removed it. They left the screen real estate unused, so it just looks like something is missing...
