Ultimate car mount: help needed for this project

Hello everybody,

I want to build the ultimate car dock for my phone. Main reason being is I recently purchased a pop-up car, touch-screen, dvd radio:

Eonon D1303 | Car DVD | 1 Din Car DVD

Ideally I want to be able to place my phone on the dock and do no other cable hook ups
The dock should:
charge my phone
provide video out to the radio screen
provide audio out to the player
provide an extra usb plug for a data cable to run to a laptop for tethering

Is all of this possible? I think I can get some of it

This proclip dock looks really nice:
ProClip Mounting SystemÂ*-Â*Dual Select Listing

but it doesn't have the 3 in 1 adapter that the touch pro 1 proclip has:
ProClip Mounting SystemÂ*-Â*Sprint HTC Touch Pro - Holder with Tilt Swivel and 3cm/1.2 Inch Cable with 3-in-1 Adapter

it has:
"mini USB for charging, 3.5mm Audio out, and the HTC Ext USB for use with the original headset."

I also see this adapter available on ebay:
LOT 500 X OEM HTC 4-Way 2.5mm 3.5mm Audio Adapter - eBay (item 260563701815 end time Oct-01-10 11:51:04 PDT)

and this hardwire mini usb cable:
Hardwire Power Cable for GARMIN NUVI GPS Mini USB - eBay (item 390236933485 end time Sep-18-10 19:24:33 PDT)

So there doesn't seem to be an adapter that exists that does all I need it to. Can anyone who has experience/knowledge of splitting this wire, or who has done a project like this before help?

Thanks!

Ok, Im gonna help ya out, but i have to call you blind first! lol.... what i have circled in the picture is the only diffference between the TP1 and TP2 version of this clip..

Knowing terminology helps, the circled item is called a "Dongle"... very easily found... dont pay more than a dollar or 2... shit, i bet people on here have that ebay dongle you have listed and might even just send it to ya for free....

then youll need the Tv-out cable... also easily found for 9.99 on ebay.. make sure you get the one that has the extra mini-usb port on it for simulanteous charging... search our

your gonna USB tether a laptop from the front seat of your car???? not very bright, not very bright at all... why would you just not run Wifi Router and Wifi tether??? you can Wifi Tether and use Vid-Out at the same time ya know..

just found this... buy your clip, this, and you should be set HTC 3 in 1 Adapter,Audio/TV/Video out,SYNC/Charge Port - eBay (item 290281939312 end time Sep-30-10 22:48:29 PDT) this will cover your Video Out needs as well from the looks of it..

Re: Ultimate car mount: help needed for this project

Thanks Boredandtatood.

I received an email from Proclip and they say the cdma mini usb does not have audo out. (see below).
that's not true is it? I think I used to use my htc mini usb headphones on this phone...

"Your device is CDMA and as far as we have learned there is no audio out in the mini usb port in the phone. The audio port is separate. Additionally, we have heard other customers who have tried to modify it but haven’t been successful because some other functionality is blocked when the audio port is active. This sounds somewhat wage and it is but as far as we know it will not work. If it had worked we would have sold the 3 in 1 adapter for this holder as well like we do for the Touch Pro2 GSM version which has a different pin out and port configuration."

Re: Ultimate car mount: help needed for this project

dude they dont know what theyre talking about, pretty sure since the TP1 HTC has been using the term EXT USB.. that means extended USB.. it has an 11 pin configuration(i think its 11) for audio/video out.... I use Video-Out daily on my TP2 and obviously audio works or i wouldnt use it lol...

PSA: HTC's ExtUSB Works with Regular MiniUSB | WMExperts

heres the cord ive been using http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/windows-mo...0-shipped.html

but the last link i found in my earlier response looks to be the better answer for your needs

Re: Ultimate car mount: help needed for this project

my VZW TP2 works with my wif'es usb adapter. Also if you cover one of the pins on USB adapter with appropriate cable 4pin 3.5mm you can have the AV cable. Line out works as well, though it's not a true line out which is really a headphones out as the volume control affects it as well.

Re: Ultimate car mount: help needed for this project

Ok so I just ordered that 3-in-1 charge port:
ProClip Mounting SystemÂ*-Â*Sprint HTC Touch Pro - Holder with Tilt Swivel and 3cm/1.2 Inch Cable with 3-in-1 Adapter
It has a usb charge port

I also just ordered this av out:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/windows-mo...0-shipped.html
It also has a usb charge port

which one should I run to the battery of my car? would doing both be more powerful/ too powerful?

and is this truely the best cable for me to run to the battery?:
Hardwire Power Cable for GARMIN NUVI GPS Mini USB - eBay (item 390236933485 end time Sep-18-10 19:24:33 PDT)
I think the best I can get is 1,000ma?

Or am I limited by these adapters (dongles)?

Anyone have a link to other hardwires to run to the battery? I do not think 6 feet is going to be enough for me.. my cars firewall only has holes in certain places and I need longer.

And now the clip..
Since I think proclip won't work.. their permanent fixture isn't going to be enough pins (it's made to only run to the battery), Is there any other brands of high quality clips that has a better permanent fixture?

Or am I best to alter this proclip:
ProClip Mounting SystemÂ*-Â*Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 - Charging Holder with Tilt Swivel and Cigarette Lighter Adapter
by removing the cord and replacing it with that adapter cord (dongle) I bought?

I'm just going to go with the wifi as you suggested... not sure what I was thinking regarding a wired connection
