Instructions

  1. Download and install "Total Commander" and "FDCSoft Task Manager" (LINKS ABOVE)
  2. Download and Unzip "Overclocking Files" (I normally unzip them in My Documents)
  3. Install "Msm7kCpuSpeed_v2" and run it, change the overclocking speed to 604MHz and click on the "MENU" soft key and select "APPLY SPEED AT BOOT"
  4. Create a folder inside "\Program Files\" and name it whatever you want, i named mine "OC Tools" copy "SetCpuSpeed.exe" and "SetCpuSpeed.cpp" to the folder you have just created.(I normally create this folder on my device i have not tested this on my storage card)
  5. Using "Total Commander" go to the folder created on step 4 highlight the "SetCpuSpeed.exe" by clicking it once, now click "MENU" on the bottom tool bar, click ">>>>>(A)" and now click "CREATE SHORTCUT" now you should get a pop-up click on "TREE" and select the following path "\Windows\Startup\" now click "OK" and "OK" again for the pop-up window.
  6. Using "Total Commander" go to "\Windows\Startup\" find the shortcut created on step 5 (SetCpuSpeed.Ink) click and hold on the shortcut to get the right click menu click on "PROPERTIES" and click on the top tab "SHORTCUT" now on the target line you have to add "/boot" (No quotation " ") to the link location and it should look like this "\Program Files\**FOLDER NAME FROM STEP 4**\SetCpuSpeed.exe" /boot now you can click "OK"
  7. Using "Total Commander" go to "\Program Files\Msm7kCpuSpeed\" and copy the file "Msm7kXClockLib.dll" and paste in the "\Windows\"
  8. Using "FDCSoft Task Manager" click on "RegEdit" and go to "\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Msm7kCpuSpeed\" click on the "MENU BUTTON" which is next the the button that has arrows pointing up and down and click on "IMPORT" go to the folder where you unzipped "Overclocking Files" (In my case \My Documents\Overclocking Files\) and select the file "SetCpuSpeed.reg" and click the "CHECK-MARK" button you should get a message saying "Registry entries successfully imported" now click on the bottom right button to exit this screen.
  9. Using "Total Commander" in the root menu go to "\\Plugins\registry\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Msm7kCpuSpee d\" and find the key "AutoPerformanceLevel" and double click it, now change the value to "40" and click "OK" (Highest stable overclock i have done with no crashes or problems, value 40=768MHz. Stability can SOMETIMES depend on rom build)
  10. Using "Total Commander" in the root menu go to "\\Plugins\registry\HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\" and find the key "Sleep" and double click it, now change the value to "0" and click "OK"

And... DONE! you can now soft reset your device and enjoy the new improved performance of your TP2!

So... most of this sounds like things that could be done with a well written cab file...

Unfortunately I'm not qualified to do so, but I'll see if I can dig up one of our resident rockstars to cab this all up so we can make it less complicated... hopefully reduce to copy and double click!

OC V1.5 is by far the easiest.
Install the cab, change the setings and commit them, turn it on and off when you want

Re: ѠѳѺ Ultimate Overclocking Guide For TP2 ѺѳѠ

Seems to me like many ways to the same end result. I used one of the earliest solutions and have not changed it for I guess a month now because it works. The one trick I used was to start at lower speed and then increase until I got a freeze, then I backed off two speeds (not just one) to give me a margin of error. I think people try to cut this too closely to eek out one tiny bit more performance. Then what happens is there is some unexpected system demand that pushes the processor over the top and it freezes. Anyway, I think the variability across solutions may be due to trying to cut it too close. 729 is just fine for me (compared to 528 ) and 768 is not that much of an increment to risk instability....

this sounds tite but why do u have to do all that work? why not just cab up everything in a single cab, i would do it 4 u if i was home

I dont know how to create cab files,it would be awesome if you created a single cab file for this method of overclocking! when are you back home? =)

Not necessarily, it depends on which solution you are using.
For example, my texting can lockup at 748Mhz, but if I am using The "SetCpuSpeed1.0d" cab, I can set the "checktime" polling to 24 and now it is fully usable at 748Mhz. I have all the cabs posted in my sig link.

why are we talking about making this a sticky? this method was cabbed up a month ago over on xda. it was nice of the op to write up how they did their oc but it is way more complicated than it needs to be.
there is a cab for setcpuspeed.
there is a cab for the script route.
there is a cab for oct.
people just have to look.

Yous guys are more direct, but I agree.
The only thing I don't have is a method for when I decide to dualboot android, but I think the script cab would be best for that.
EDIT: ha ok it went over my head too, i actually thought you meant it about sticky, duh-me ok lol

I'm liking it so far, but questions.

The OC doesn't stick after reboot correct? Is that a good or a bad thing?

I'm kinda hoping there's an option to turn it on/off on reboot.

Thanks.

It's a good thing to start out with when testing OCT for stability.

If you want OCT to run at start up, you just need add a shortcut of it's run.exe to your Windows\Startup Folder. That said, I highly recommend you make sure you have the OCT cab installed to your micro SD card prior to adding the exe shortcut to the Startup Folder. Doing this allows you the option of pulling the mirco SD card and being able to boot back up with the stock clock speed. This precaution is just in case your overclock settings cause the system to get stuck in lockup loop during boot up.

Best to all,
R

Sorry if u found it childish but after testing and failing to have a 24\7 stable overclock i thought it would be a good idea to share the information on how i did it and to be honest i never expected so many bashers to post here. And it really doesnt bother me to be criticized for what i do as long as its constructive criticism. Thanks for your opinion.

Excellent work gono..

Just something to ponder if you had any feedback..

I used your most recent guide "v.1.666" and it froze my phone (runnin Mr.X ROM) and then I had to re-enter into bootloader but it wouldn't work for about half hour. I just kept trying and it finally allowed me to flash new ROM.
2nd time around I followed your first post and it the OC worked jus fine:headbang:.

Any thoughts? Or anyone else have similar issues?

I love the new performance of TP2 after I got it goin with first guide!:thumbright:

Re: ѠѳѺ Ultimate Overclocking Guide For TP2 ѺѳѠ Updated 9/6/2010

For people trying to get android to boot. First go to the registry entry of:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Msm7kCpuSpeed\

Then change the boot time to 70000 or higher (this sets how long until the overclock is kicked in. IF using dualboot then make it like 60000 (60 seconds) if not make it higher until you can boot after windows starts)

ALSO!!! go to:

Start
MSM7kcpuspeed app

menu then disable apply at boot.

now for as long as you put as the boot time setting you have to start android until that ends.. so if i put 60 seconds. I have to start it within 60 seconds of booting windows.

There YA GO! :)

battery has not had a great negative impact on my tp2 nothing crazy enough to make me not overclock and i normally try to find the highest setting for each rom i run, the heat has not been a issue unless im doing some heavy usage of the phone while its connected to the charger, but while running on battery i have not experience any temperature changes.

Thanks for the guide... I'm new to overclocking, and the 1.666 guide was simple enough to follow. The phone froze at boot though so had to hard reset. Running BigMaxSense Rom though. Could that have anything to do with it?

This overclocking method is not rom specific, it works on any rom installed on your rhodium, make sure u followed the guide correctly and before you soft reset you can change the BootTime registry key to 180000 (default is 20000) this will make the overclock kick in at 3 minutes that way if the phone freezes for some reason it will always give you enough time to access your registry and make the changes you need to fix the problem, make sure you follow the guide carefully. (BootTime found in \\Plugins\registry\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Msm7kCpuSpeed\)

Is it safe enough to just try for the maximum speed once, and if you run into issues, get in there and change the settings before anything serious happens? Some say just try it in steps, increasing speed gradually. How long should I look for a speed to be stable before I decide to try the next higher speed?

If I OC the phone and it somehow burns out, will insurance cover it (assuming you just tell them it died by itself, not admitting you OCed it to hell)?

Has anyone heard of that happening?

You have probably had your question answered but here is my experience.

First I installed an overclock application and manually upped the clock speed one step at a time untill finally at a certian speed it would just freeze the phone. No problem a soft reset put the phone back at stock speed and I would try again. I found out that something like 806ish froze my phone every time i upped to it So I set down a step or 2 to 768. I exited the over clocking program and played around for a few minutes with no problems. I decided 768 was a good speed. I soft reset my phone so it went back to stock speed then I installed the oc auto script so that it would down clock my phone when it went to sleep. I have been running 768 with a safe speed of 604 so I dont get Sleep of death's. I have had no problems yet and no freeze ups. My check interval is 1100 ms or 1.1 seconds.
