technically you can.. but apparently when it comes to Swype, the site doesnt want us to.. this means theyve been contacted by the company over the matter..

but just for info, it has to be an older version.. like with WMWifi all versions b4 1.0 were free, therefore those versions can be redistributed.. if WMWF had a free .91 version, than made the same version "Shareware-Paid"(assuming not a v.91 pro or something with different faetures) than that v.91 could no longer be re-distributed.. thats why with that one it can still be givin out..

with Swype, i guess the site doesnt want us to as pointed out, so yeah, cant post it up anymore..

Because it was never freeware, it was ripped off another phone and cab'ed up. There is no real discussion here, It's not allowed to be posted on the site and no links to free downloads of it. why argue the fact any more?

i think hes just asking in general now, as it pertains to other possible apps in this situation..

..and when is the site goign to make Chefs take it out of their ROMs then if its not allowed on site???

and is the Android version everyones talking about in EVO and X thread a paid app?? why can they talk about it and such??

just trying to grasp why and where discussion is and isnt allowed

Exactly... there never was a freely released version, and the folks at Swype have taken exception, thus making it non-free. Therefore it's not here. Period end of story, please lock the thread.

Swipe was never free, even when it was ripped off other devices it was licensed by the OEM to be distributed. Just like WM isn't free but all WM devices come with a license to run it via OEM.

Swype sells licenses to say t-mobile who then in turn releases it with their device. its still a pay app and modifying it to run on devices other then what it was licensed to is warez.
