QPST to replace/clone my own phone ?

I DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TWO PHONES!! I AM NOT TRYING TO BREAK THE LAW OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT!!

IF YOU WOULD LIKE, YOU CAN ANSWER "HYPOTHETICALLY".

I have my Touch Pro 2 that is acting really funky for the past two months. I have tried about 30 dirrerent ROMS (older dated one too - thats how I got to 30) and none of them will get my GPS to work. ALSO, all of those ROMS freeze within the first day or so requiring me to remove the battery, i.e. completely freezes. I have tried task 29, locking and going back to stock (both original and MR2).

My flashing process lately, completely out of frustration, has been:
1) Task 29
2) remove battery
3) volume down+end call+make call to wipe two times
4) flash new ROM
5) repeat steps 2 & 3
6) start new rom
7) clear storage
start new rom again

Same thing happens.....

I also have sitting by my side my previous Touch Pro 2 that was activated as the same phone on the same account. It was replaced under warranty and the guys at work never came around to collect it to send it back. (It was replaced for a loose slider mechanism but otherwise was only about 3 weeks old and completely functional)

Can QPST be used to download the information off of the current phone and reprogram the older phone? I have no interest in trying to ever use two phones etc. I just want a functional phone. I will be happy to "blow up" the current piece o'crap. I just want to know if a "read fromphone", "save to file", "reconnect old hardware", "write to phone" is all that is necessary to replace the current one with the older one.

I realize that this probably teeters on the Federal Law thing but I am on vacation and miles from a store.

In case anyone was wondering why I am travelling with the non-activated phone, it is for comparative purposes trying to get current GPS to work. Flash non functional, try GPS, examine registry etc.

The new one will make a very nice skimming stone in the ocean...LOL.

Even if you come back and say, "thats all that is needed", I am not sure that I still have the you know whats to actually do this. I dont want to get in trouble over something innocent.....the law does not excuse stupidity or ignorance.

Thanks

Re: QPST to replace/clone my own phone ?

Is there any reason you can't just call the carrier and just have them move your line from you active phone to the other one? and since they are the same phone just use a program like SPB backup to a full backup and restore that on the other phone?

thats exactly what i thought after a few sentences lol

OP, your issue is FAR less complicated than your making it.. call sprint from a landline, or atleast not either of the TP2s and tell them you wanna do an ESN Swap.. its just a few steps and done... it can be done on sprint.com through the live help chat too..

Re: QPST to replace/clone my own phone ?

Yes, you are correct.....and I have tried that. I am on vacation and this is a work phone. I talked to the Verizon business support people and although they fully understand and have a record of the previous phone, I am not listed as one of the authorized people on our corporate account to allow such a change.

Funny thing is though, although it's not my job, I am one of the testers for corporate validation of new phones and functionality through exchange.

On a side note, , I just flashed Vins latest pluto yesterday and since I wrote this original post, I had to hard reset my phone once again. It would dial calls but I couldn't hear anything either through headset, speaker etc. Tried pulling battery etc.

Maybe I should start a thread on creative ways to destroy your broken phones...

Re: QPST to replace/clone my own phone ?

you can't do *228 option 1 with the older phone? It's shouldn't be blacklisted. If it didn't get returned, Verizon just charges the acct. with the full retail price of the phone and it becomes yours...

If you didn't send back the phone that was supposed to be replaced, you will be charged. It may not be now, it may not be next week, but they will find you and extract their pound of flesh eventually. Unless you miraculously slipped through the cracks. Here's hoping.
